@Taconator_ do you still have the powder? I'd bug a diabetic friend for a few test strips or just drop $10 on a box of strips. Do one test strip in plain water, do another test strip in water with the powder, do a third in water with known sugar and compare the results.

Looks like styrofoam was dissolved in your tank and clogged your pump filter then solidified forming a plastics like substance.

    UPDATE:

As far as updates go, they just called me recommending to replace the entire fuel tank. They said that the bleeder valve has debris in it that they couldn't really flush out. Technician said that he thinks it would be fine to leave, but cant guarantee it. Price would be $800 for the new fuel tank without labor costs since the fuel tank is already off the truck. Personally, I think it would be fine to leave the current fuel tank. They did clean out the tank, so technically nothing in there anymore. But wondering what everyone's opinion is? Currently I'm at $1,200 (parts/labor for fuel pump). With new fuel tank, total price is now $2k

I would think flushing with hot water or other soluble solution and drying will do the trick.

If you don't replace the gas tank and say the pump fails again under warranty will they still cover the repairs or will they use the gas tank as an excuse?

Edit: I think you'd probably be alright to leave the gas tank if it's cleaned well enough. I'm confused where this bleeder valve is located or if it's attached to the gas tank. I assume that's why they want to replace the tank too?

I’m at 49k, so not much time left with the warranty. I think if it fails it’ll do so after the warranty is over. Like most things. Lol.

Have them replace everything, did you call your insurance yet? The bill will be $500 or whatever your deductible is.

Dislike. These are poly tanks right? Replace the bleeder valve and blow out the tank AKA purge the tank. The tank is a vessel not a part that fails like a valve or pump. If it’s not leaking just clean it out and move along. Save that money for the cost of the replacement tank.:pout::sick:

I meant warranty on the work they're doing. Meaning if a fuel system issue occurred after the repairs within a year would they fix it free under that warranty or try and weasel out of it with an excuse that you opted to not replace the gas tank.

Parts and labor warranty is usually 1 year from the dealer, but I see what you mean about remaining factory warranty. I'd probably opt to leave the old tank and roll the dice as well.

Ah crap I almost forgot about that. I have so much going on right now. So, by any chance do you think the insurance would pay the dealership directly or would I pay and they reimburse me? Ima call first thing tomorrow morning.

They could pay dealership directly as well. But it may take a day or two to get an adjuster “out there” to verify the totals etc.

If the insurance company is paying, then they get to decide if the tank gets replaced. DO NOT DO ANYTHING FURTHER WITH THE DEALER, CONTACT YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY FIRST.
Says this former insurance claim adjuster.
