Dang, I'm about to be in this situation minus welding skills. Did you try Airport Welding & Muffler up in Snohomish, or Dan Fast in Bellevue? I was going to start there based on previous mentions on TW.

Stainless is actually really easy to weld because it flows so well. Anyone telling you otherwise is BSing you to charge more. Wouldn't surprise me if muffler shops are turning you away because they're too lazy to switch the machine out to SS wire but you can use carbon steel filler on stainless just fine. My reroute is a section of alumanized steel welded into the SS system.

Aluminum is the tricky one since it doesn't change color when molten so it is pretty tough to gauge your temperature before you burn through it. Takes alot more experience/feel for it.

Yeah I just used regular ole wire and it welded just fine, obviously tough because its so thin.

Cool. Wonder why the install places all us aluminized steel rather than reusing the stainless factory exhaust then

either way happy I did it. Skids being flat is so satisfying and I’ve barely scraped a few times already

I’m sure for them it’s a lot more time efficient to just bend up a piece that’ll fit right than play Tetris with what they cut off. Plus less weld prep with new tubing.

Yeah that and the stock crossover is dual layered for some reason, so I had to spend time cutting/ prying that inner layer out

Weird question maybe. I just got mine re-routed and went on a road trip and noticed that the truck sounds different/louder and was wondering if the new pipe and location is contributing to that. Has anyone else noticed that?

Muffler King in Kirkland WA did mine for $275. Looks great, plenty of room between t-case actuator and the pipe but I’m still going to throw a shield on it tomorrow.

It's almost like shops in places with different property values and average labor rates will charge different amounts for the same job!

I stopped by a muffler place while running errands and was quoted $425. But they hadn't done this before so I'll definitely shop around. After installing my catalytic converter shield I really want to have it done. It's just hanging there waiting to snag a rock!

Anyone in the L.A Area, I can only say great things about the guys at Pibe's Auto in Van Nuys. Did the tuck method for the reroute, and chopped my tailpipe adding a short extension to ensure my spare was not @ risk of melting. $150. Had the truck on the lift within 10 minutes of quoting me. Took a few hours but only because he bent 3 different pipes to get the reroute just right.

As nutty as I thought it would be. I thought I had a decent amount of pie cuts on mine, but you sir, take the prize.
