Wind and road noise reduction solution by 15db or so

HI all
I've been racking my brain for a way other than more weather-stripping to reduce the excess wind noise and road noise on my brand new 2021 Tacoma that has been "leaking" through in the cab. Needless to say, I ended installing additional weather-stripping as the only other real option appears to be true sound proofing and I have no intention or desire to tear apart my new Tacoma to do that.
My simple fix has been to install additional weather-stripping I purchased on Amazon. It is 0.47" h x 0.55" wide. A 20' roll was enough. I cleaned the interior of the body frame from the top of the front bolt above the door hinge with 91% alcohol and let it dry. This while I warmed up the weather-stripping in the sun. The doors require just a bit more pull to close tightly now, but that will become the norm. I did not do a perfect job, but such is life, the noise is better than it was so I'm happy. I used my sound meter to verify the improvement btw. I would suggest a the Taco Marine weather-stripping or another high quality weather-stripping. I've returned 4 unsatisfactory brands because they were crap so be selective. As a great example of improvement. I can now listen to the radio at a volume level of 15 instead of 25. To me, this improvement is huge. Feel free to message me if you have any questions.

Guess I must be "Old School" - buy a truck and expect the interior of the cab to be as quiet as an Avalon?
Works for me as-is.

CY Yankee, I have no expectations that the truck will be an Avalon. Maybe my Tacoma has an issue some other Tacomas don’t have, maybe not. Having had a number of Tacoma’s over the years, my new one has more wind noise than any of my other ones. No sense in trying to ask the dealer to investigate it, better luck finding aliens.I just wanted to be able to have a conversation with my friends or family while also have some music playing on low volume. I posted because I know other new Tacoma owners are having the same challenges. So it’s an easy remedy and everyone I know who has spent $35 and 30 minutes is satisfied. Have a great evening

I have to say, this truck (2018 SR 2.7) is a lot louder than my 2003 that I used to have. I do have the Extended Cab now (I had a Double Cab 3.4 before) not sure if that makes a difference or not but I might give this a try as I really don’t want to tear into my truck either. They don’t make these trucks like they used to for sure. I’m still loving this truck so far tho. Thanks for the tip!

 

I DO get it (believe it or not). But my outlook is different I guess.
Starting with a Chevy LUV (POS) -> 1989 Toyota pickup ->1998 Tacoma -> 2006 Tacoma TRD -> 2021 TRD OR AC.
Each step was an improvement.
The '06 and now the '21 was/is my sanctuary. The wind noise is inconsequential to me.
I'm sure others feel differently.

These trucks have barely any insulation and transmit lots of road noise. Especially over 55mph with bigger tires. Again my soft top JK on E rated 35s is quieter inside than my taco at highway speeds. Which makes no sense since the roof is a tent

 

I found most of the cabin noise in my 2020 Access cab was coming from the back cab wall, specifically the two vents. I used $30 of sound deadening sheets to cover the back wall, placed breathable foam in the vents and a pool noodle between the cab and bed below the vents to block some of the road noise from reaching the vents.

I only re-installed the panel leaving the jump seats and head rest out. Truck is much quieter now.

I put a roof rack on and it was a little quieter. Sold the rack now it's a little louder. Crazy stuff. Doesn't really bother me either way, I usually have the radio on.

 

If you live in a very cold climate, you can see where the air leaks are on the truck when the inside of the truck is humid (snow melt in the floor mats)

As you drive, the humid air goes out the air leaks, and then instantly freezes to the body of the truck. The result is small white crystalized patterns. I have found on my truck, the only places are the top of the doors between the front and rear door. This is exactly where your new seal would seal it up.

Any reason you stopped where you did, just behind the top of the window? Is there a problem with continuing back down the door jamb? I haven't looked at it yet.
