Regular Toyota oil & air filters have a 45 year track record of enabling multiple 4, 6 & 8 cylinder Toyota engines to last 1,000,000 miles without needing an overhaul.

The TRD filter was developed for racing. I do a lot of racing so it’s my go-to.

The TRD oil filter is really nicely made, I use them on my pavement princess.

About $16, does it make a difference? -- Probably negligible in my service.
I've spent more money for less sensible things.

There is no problem with the OEM Toyota filter either or WIX brand filters - standard and extra performance available. Most important is that the oil/filter gets changed as needed.

Back in my old air cooled VW days they had a screen for an oil filter, on my one Baja Bug l think l added an adapter and a spin on filter though.

You're either an optimist or a sadist for walking into the service department and raising hell.

I don't let them work on my truck nor do I allow anyone to wrench on it without my supervision.

I still have one VW powered by an air-cooled VW-based engine (1776 Dual Port with Dual Solex Carbs). Mine has the stock oil Strainer in the sump, with holes which are so large they don't do a lot of straining. Like most others my engine has been modified so that I can run a traditional spin-on filter.

Naw naw naw not in a Karen fashion the truth is when I questioned them about why not the service dude came at me and
got all up in my face and I just responded to the guy. Told him I wasn't mad at 'him' per-se, and I wasn't, I was miffed that
'Toyota' would tell me when I could use up one of the 'services' that I paid for and was entitled to. Really didn't get all that
    Karenish with the guy.
