I currently have both on hold and trying to decide which to buy. Both are 4x4 Off Roads and both have 30k miles. The 2017 is white and the 2019 is dark grey. I really like the white for off roading. They both cost the same, but is it better to get the newer one? Or will it really matter?

One has Toyota Safety Sense, other don’t. That’s the difference you have. I would pick 2017 just to deal less with nanny things.

Hard to say - I'd look at where the cars lived, owner(s), service records....I bought my 2019 new in Jan of 2019 and I currently have 132K miles on it (lots in 4WD)...I am VERY satisfied with the truck and I actually love the adaptive Cruise Control.

I go for the 2019 better resale value being it’s a newer year .

2019 is way better. And while white is nice it has by far the most problems.

Yeah the 2017 lived in Texas with two owners and has a history of maintenance by the dealership and clearly was not driven a lot. The 2019 is a one owner from Arizona but it was registered on the Navajo Nation with no service records... I'm definitely thinking about resale value but plan on keeping this truck another 7 years at least.

I like my 2017 for not having the extra gizmos. When the system evolves more, I can see getting them. Too much weirdness for now and I want my Taco to last a good, long time.

White is known to have issues because it is a single stage paint. However, the 2017 doesn't have TSS or Radar cruise (which I like not having). The 2017 also has the large cubby on the driver's side of the bed. I believe those were discontinued in 2019.

I'd go 19. It's 2 years newer, possibly still under bumper to bumper and it's not white and the problems that come with that. Don't listen to the TSS haters. The system is far from perfect but radar cruise is great for long highway stints and the system has proven reliable.

I'd stay clear of a white anything for a Toyota unless you plan on repainting or wrapping the entire truck.

I wouldn't let "nanny" features stop you from getting the 2019. You can turn most of them off- lane departure, collision alert, and radar cruise control (this one I just found out, you hold down the cruise button on the stalk instead of a short press/tap). I don't have blind spot monitoring or cross traffic so I can't speak to turning off those features, but I would guess you'd be able to turn them off too.

Like others have said, be aware that the super white is known for having paint issues. There are threads on here you can reference. It is nice that it has service records though.

I have a 2017 in white no problems, I hear people with white tacomas have paint flaking but i've seen far more tacomas have clear coat issues. My wife just got a 2021 4runner and it has all the TSS, lane departure warning, etc. I honestly dont care for the features to much, especially in a heavy rain the TSS acts up. Both have ups and downs, 2019 will have much better resale so thats a huge plus but you mentioned you like the color white. Honestly I would wait it out if you can until you find the perfect one and hopefully this crazy car market will calm down a bit.

Slightly newer and more evolved. TSS saved me from crushing the rear hatch of some lil' shaitbox in heavy DC traffic.

I disagree; my 80 series white single stage still looked great after 27yrs.

I wouldn't worry about a 19 with 30k not having records. All it would have needed is oil changes and tire rotations. I like the way white looks on the Taco, but too many horror stories.

Safety nannies are easily shut off. But pre collision alert has saved my ass.
