I’ve got 66,000 on my ‘17 Tacoma with doing only regular oil and filter changes. This is my forever truck so I want to do what’s needed. I’m wondering about transmission fluid? Should it be changed?

I’m 76 and read the owners manual as a last resort. I want to give it the maintenance it needs but be reasonable. I would say the truck gets very little abuse. It’s on the pavement 99% of the time.

Any thoughts will be appreciated .

Hey Perry. This got posted in the wheels/tires section. May want to repost in the general area or technical section for more responses. That being said. I’m a big believer in maintenance. 60k is a great time to a big service on all the fluids. At 60k I did plugs, flushed coolant, break fluid, ps fluid. Changed rear diff fluid. I also flushed the tranny fluid. Did an injector clean, throttle body clean. Good luck. Also replaced the serpentine belt. Also you could go back through the owners manual and do everything recommended at 60k plus anything missed. FYI I do all the things I mentioned every 60k.

Don’t forget cabin and engine air filters.

I believe you need to inspect the driver side floor mat at least once every 5,000 miles. You’re way overdue :)

Serpentine belt is probably past due. Other than filters and oil that is about it. I'd check the brakes. Plugs can wait till 100,000. Same for oil in the diff or transfer case.

I'm at 219,000 on my 07 and have done very little.

Mostly electrical shit that nobody cares about.
Hey man, there's nothing wrong with reading the owner's manual as a first resort! There's a pamphlet somewhere in there that has all the maintenance numbers as a checklist.

It's better than most of the guys that ignore their manual then come to the forums as a last resort.

The owners manual sucks. Gives recommendation for "extreme condition", not normal. Lists mileage intervals then service item, not service item then extreme condition, normal condition, drive like a eunuch condition with these mileage events.

A giant chart with service items on one side and mileage on the other side with 3 different colored dots would be nice to pin up in the garage. I was asking if someone had something along these lines. Instead we want to break balls eh?

The manual describes opening and closing the windows. Thank God for that!
