    yeah the guy with the winch is usually in front unless they want to be further down the line. I haven't seen many cases where someone can't complete a line with a tug from the guy in front anyway (assuming they can't get around it another way).

    With the winch in the back you'd have to get pretty creative to help a person go forward that's stuck in the middle. Would be easier with them in front and even then I think a tug with a strap would work most times anyway

    If someone needs a tug up an obstacle just make sure they know only to go as far as needed, then stop and unhook the strap. Last hard trail I did, we helped tug a guy up and over and he kept going - wrapped the strap up in his wheel and ripped his brake line right out. That was fun

    Zane answered pretty well as to why up front, but to add to this, I also like to say the more experienced/capable up front as they can;

    1. Determine and call out line choice for those following

    2. Be up front in the event of a recovery needed for the lesser capable vehicle

    3. Be a spotter for the lesser capable vehicle or simply the lesser experienced driver

    Like to keep the other more experienced driver running tail as they won't have issue trying to "keep up" and can assist closer vehicles more easily/quickly versus the lead vehicle.

    yeah I was afraid it may have torn his axle right out or something worse. Although not having brakes anymore on a steep rocky trail is pretty bad too lol. We had to cap the brake line using a bolt from one of our kits then bleed the system/add more fluid just so he could keep going. It was good I had brake fluid with me but it was barely enough

    that same trip my battery nearly slid into my belts and fan shroud, popped the hood to air up and it was right there next to the belts. I don't even wanna know what that would've looked like

    that was when I dug my OEM battery holder out of my parts graveyard by the house and put it back on

    My last battery before the one I just got was a group 35 size and fit awkwardly so that the stock bent up battery holder didn't tie it down well. I tossed it and told myself I would get a battery cage for it, meanwhile used 4 or 5 zip ties from the battery to the fender. Yeah...those didn't hold lol

    I made sure to get a group 24f battery a couple weeks ago. Can finally trust my stock tie down again, well as much as one can trust it.

    Apparently it was bad enough that the other guys like Miguel and Tyler had to bring it up more than once :laughing:

    Good points. I will be the lead/winch vehicle running this course (going backward and uphill) this weekend. There are two days of thunderstorms in the forecast. The red clay will make the rocks slick and difficult to climb. One other driver in the group is familiar with this type of trail. The other members are familiar with flat land off-roading or maintained trails like Colorado.
