Thanks, I will take that as a yes. I was just curious because some people say the new Tacos are already lifted 1 inch higher.

I’m not following you. Regardless of whether your truck is lifted before you adjust your preload or install a new suspension, if it is 2.5” higher than when you started then you lifted it 2.5”.

I think a more important thing to think about is how down travel (aka droop) you have before and after a lift. You don’t want to get too close to zero. A suspension needs enough down travel to work correctly.

Watch a video of trophy trucks racing and notice how much down travel they have. Dirt bikes also tend to have a lot of down travel which is noticeable when you sit on one and it sinks down.

Thanks, this is very helpful information. I am pretty new to trucks as I come from working on S-Chassis cars. I was looking to get about a 2.5inch lift out of the kings and then I have Icon rear leaf pack and SPC UCAs.

2.5” above the factory OR IFS ride height will leave you with about 0.5” of down travel. I suggest aiming for 2”. There are severe limits on how much you can lift an IFS suspension.

EDIT: with king extended length shocks you get an extra inch of travel. Personally I still shot for 2” lift with 2” of down travel. I’m currently short of my goal, but not too worried about it.

Stock hub to fender height has been reported to be about 21” in the front and 22” in the rear. CAVEAT: the Pro has been reported to have 1” more in the front. Typically people report a 0.5-1” difference between the passenger side and the driver side. These are my current hub to fender measurements:

    FL 22
    FR 22.5
    RL 23.5
    RR 24

I’d have some room to raise the front 0.5-1”, but I think I’ll wait until after I install my bumpers and winch.

yeah, that was the hardest part of the install but even that was pretty straight foreword, and I just bent it back to the original shape as best as possible, covered any marks with some black touch up paint and then when I put the mud guards back on, they covered up the whole area that I had to bend anyways so nothing is noticeable. The passenger side took a lot more bending and was more of a pain in the ass than the drivers side which I only had to make one small bend and was able to get the thru-bolt out.

I had to grind the flange on the passenger side bolt to get it out, but the driver side wasn’t much easier because of the wiring harness that needed to be removed by removing a screw that was buried underneath the abyss. I didn’t bother to screw it back in. *cross fingers*

If I had to do it again, I think I would just cut them and install the new ones backwards.

To clarify. Ext shocks don’t give an extra inch of travel. They remove an internal spacer which provides, at MOST, 5/8” of an inch. To leverage this you also need aftermarket UCA as stock UCA with just hit the coil.

Kings out of the box are usually set at 5 threads (prelod) which is about 1” of lift. You’ll need to adjust the coilovers to the desired lift height but 2.5” is about all you want. The amount of preload varies and depends on the truck weight and spring rate you chose.

Also most trucks aren’t reporting 1” difference from driver to passenger, usually about 1/4” or so.

Be careful whose advice you buy on here.

You don’t gain 1” wheel travel. Your up travel is the same.

By wheel travel I mean the distance from full extension to full compression.

It’s about 1” by my casual hub to fender tape measurements. Albeit, I did forget to write down my stock measurements. Do you have before and after measurements?

Ya hence why it's 5/8. A casual measurement to most would be 1/2" or less. Thats why extended shocks are kind of a joke.

By casual I mean I’m not measuring with a caliper. I will admit an error of +/- .25”. Why are you calling me out on this minor difference? Lol

have you measured yours before and after?

I just made a clarification based on an incorrect metric provided to another member. YOU quoted me and began a debate, again my mistake for showing ignored content, back to the black hole of ignored members you go.
