just check your local credit unions, they usually have really good rates.

I get toyota factory employee discount. Its not very good. I got a better discount from a dealership by not telling them I got a factory discount. I priced it both ways and saved about $2k by shopping around in several states. I got better financing as well. My understanding is that factory employees get different pricing the dealership employees because technically dealership employees are not employees of toyota. They are employees of "xyz" dealership. Toyota is a bit secretive about the whole deal unlike other companies that openly post it. You have to go through a certain department to get the codes for the discount and when I went through it it was tied to the employee credit union.

I also get subaru factory employee discount. Subaru will offer special rebates to employees and special financing but only on the most common vehicles. I.e. not on the wrx sti. Its a good deal in some cases because sometimes they let you get the best deal at the dealership and then you send in some paper work for the additional rebate. Once again, you can usually get a better deal from a dealership. They dont offer the factory employee rebate very often. Normally is a special financing rate and a small rebate done at the dealership level. They post the deals on the employee bulitin board and they change every so often

I get vendor pricing from Ford and GM. Its called "x" plan at ford. Actual employees of Ford and GM get better pricing than vendors, about 4% more I think. Employee price is called "A" plan at ford. You have to tell the dealership up front about your eligibility and you have to give them your pricing code and they give you the factory price up front... A or x plan. From time to time they offer x plan people A plan. I think A plan was about 4% of sticker price when I bought my explorer several years ago. The only problem with this is that you have to be very careful about the dealership giving you a price and then taking out stuff...i.e. floor mats, upgraded stereo, or other things they can take out to screw you in the deal. Once again, you can generally get a better deal by just negotiating yourself. Some dealerships near the factory in Kentucky will offer employee pricing at bigger sales. Sometimes you can call a dealership near the plants and tell them you get "A" plan pricing and they will quote it over the phone. I did this once when I bought an explorer in Chicago. I called Louisville Kentucky (where they make explorers) and got an a plan price quote faxed to me and then handed it to the Chicago dealership. last time I looked, Ford pricing extends to all subsidiary companies like Jag, volvo, etc.

I get vendor pricing from Nissan.. worst deal of them all. Employee pricing is also bad. Infinity will sometimes offer killer deals on select models. They send out a letter from time to time telling you what the deal is and sometimes its pretty good.

I get employee pricing at Mitsubishi. Also not very good. It is much easier to get a better deal on your own.

Anytime you tell a dealership you are eligible for a certain type of pricing schedule, you generally hose yourself to any kind of local deals. You are generally shifted from your local sales guy to the fleet manager depending on how big the dealership is. The other thing I found to be true is that employees generally get better deals for cars made in their factory. The tundra guys got a different deal on tundra than the guys in the camry plant. Either way you still have to go to the dealership. Subaru and mitsubish actually sell cars to employees from the factory lot twice a year. You save on dealership bogus fees at those sales. But you can usually get dealerships to waive those fees if you shop around.
