Could be similar but Mr. T does like to differentiate from other lines at least slightly.

 

There is no way that isn't the AC, unless the DC is now even smaller than it currently is. Look how small the back door is.

My guess is the cabs will be slightly larger. A few more inches and the AC can easily hold regular back seats.

 

Honestly gang, that is almost certainly a modified Tundra body on the new Tacoma chassis (a mule), I wouldn't get too worried about the cab lengths or door setups quite yet.

 

Aren't the new Taco and Tundra supposed to share the same platform? If so, I absolutely expect them look very similar.

 

What do you mean by 'same platform'?

 

I'm not even sure exactly what it means. Reports are that the trucks will share a platform, though. If you do a google search, there are tons of articles on it.

Well i suspect rear 4 link, hybrid, revamped interior. Otherwise slightly different front look but continued stamped panels.

 

Random prediction: maybe Toyota will quit doing the stamped letters on the tailgate?

Logic: The 3rd gen was the first truck to put stamped letters on the tailgate (somebody correct me if I'm wrong there) and since then, it's been shamelessly copied on a ton of other trucks. Now that the fad they started is becoming overplayed, Toyota is backing off by adding stick-on letters, which have gone over well with consumers (myself included).

What do you guys think?

 

Tundra, followed by the next-gen Tacoma, Hilux, 4Runner etc. will all share the TGNA-F platform, but that doesn't mean they will be identical sizes as the architecture is flexible.

Of course, the Tundra is a full-size pickup, while the Tacoma is midsize. This means that Toyota's truck platform needs to have a degree of modularity, similar to the company's TNGA platform that underpins both large and small cars.​

Right, but it likely means they will share a lot of parts, styling, etc.

 

I would then take the incentive to trade in for BEV.

 

For sure they will share a lot of underpinnings and hard contact points and similar brakes, suspension, etc because the platform was designed for those specifics.

But it doesn't mean that it will have the same size access cabs. They are still 2 different-sized trucks.

Styling is not the same as structure, but I do expect a lot of the new Tundra styling cues to carry down to the Tacoma. Not because they have to (due to the platform) but because manufacturers like to have cohesive style elements throughout their product lineups.

Which is why I think that NASCAR Tundra might show us how the new Tundra styling (headlights, grill surround shape, etc) would look on a shorter, smaller truck face... like the 4th gen Tacoma.*

Sure, Fords ranger is a turbo 4 and I think it's tow rating is over 7K

 

Fair. Let me clarify - since about 1990 I haven't seen a new truck in the US that had letters physically stamped into the tailgate.

 

Pretty sure f150s had stamped tailgates a year or 2 before the 3rd gen tacos.

 

I think Toyota is all-in on stamping for the foreseeable future.

 

You got me thinking way harder about these letters than I expected to, haha! I just Googled it to double-check... from what I can tell, it looks like Ford introduced the current gen F-150 in 2015. The tailgate didn't have stamped letters from '15-'17, and they added them on the '18 model. Toyota had stamped letters on the 3rd gen Tacoma tailgate starting with the '16 model.
