Just got my Tacoma back from doing an oil change and my mechanic said it has an oil leak and referenced T-SB-0073-18. 44k miles and the engine has an oil leak....Has anyone had this fix done wondering what it will set me back. Extremely disappointed.

According to Toyota they will cover the cost of the repair. If you just missed the 60 month cut-off I would make the argument that oil was leaking from the bolt way before the 60 months were up.

This is where having a good relationship with your local dealership helps, the dealership can get things done if you're nice to them.

I can't imagine any of the dealers around me doing this for free they have never done anything right.

I have never understood why dealers are so reluctant to do warranty work. Isn’t it ultimately approved and reimbursed by Toyota? I thought the dealer was just an administrative pathway to Toyota, obviously they’re not going to submit something that will definitely be rejected. But why so much conflict with manufacturer warranty stuff?

Probably because it's just work for them to have to file the paperwork and so on to get their check from toyota, much more easy to stick it to the customer.

And dealers often get paid less for warranty work. The factory will only pay its prescribed number of hours for a task. If the job takes longer, oh well. Not uncommon for a dealer to say "it's normal" while under warranty but then insist you need the repair after the warranty is up. Another reason to get any issue documented before the warranty expires so you at least have a chance to get the factory to cover it.

In my industry as a hot tub technician for 14 years, I’ve seen numerous customers destroy a brand new $15,000 hot tub with terrible water chemistry. High chlorine and bottomed out PH. Their fault 100%, and the vast majority piss and moan loudly enough to get a new spa at no charge. We as the dealer are supposed to “coach” these morons so they won’t do it again. It’s a joke, these people are the exact type that never crack open their owners manual. Everything is someone else’s fault, and they have no intention of listening because they’re always right.

OP, this is a shit situation that I highly doubt you had any part in creating for yourself. Get belligerent, get your facts in writing on Toyota letterhead, and get it fixed for free. Fuck paying $4000 for an engine failure you didn’t cause on what should still be a baby of a Toyota as far as use/mileage goes.
