I can't say, I didn't ask. Not familiar with that.

All I know is I was handed 1/8 rod, and found after melting it, it puddles up quickly. Was hoping to get something like 3/32 but we have none so...

Took a little bit figuring out my neutral flame only to have a torch that would easily change my pressure if I moved/bumped it ever so slightly.

I should've just stuck with the same one I had yesterday.

Anyway I switched torches, found my neutral flame, and went to work -

Not the prettiest but it held up damn well to a sledge

Now I get to do whatever I want to it; going to clean it up and fill any small holes.

Not bad never having done it before

In the real world one puts up with changing pressures some regulators just don`t like the lower pressures needed for brazing when a pound of psi is enough to change your flame.

Well the issue too was, as I moved around the box while remaining constantly on it, I would accidently just brush the knob. The knobs were so easy to turn that I'd suddenly see a long flame or a crackling one and notice the knob turned and threw off my acetylene or oxygen.

    Week 5: Plasma Cutting!

Holy shit, cutting with this thing makes anyone look like a pro!

With what I learned on oxyfuel, in regards to speed and heat, I'm cutting different gauge steel easily on my first pass every pass!

    Playing with 1/8", 1/4" and even 3/16"

Someone welded this monstrosity with different gauge steel so I went ahead and cut it all up as I saw fit -

    20211011_085705.jpg

On a side note, I got to drill the dimples into my dice so that's all done -

    20211011_074559.jpg

    20211011_080637.jpg

On my own time, I'll go ahead and finish rounding the edges to get it looking good all the way around.

    A new Toy !

Trust people can make poor cuts with a Plasma as well

The idea is going from the plasma table right to the welding area without any prep work to save time!!

I've got a miller 625 plasma cutter. Is it possible to do a DIY table like this or even worth it?

    It is up to you!

As long as you are happy with the performance of the Miller Specturm 625 The only real down side is no machine torch which can be worked around.

I am spoiled I am a diehard Hypertherm person.

Once you have a plasma table you will wonder how you lived without one.

Check out the Anything Welding Thread A few people just got there tables up and running

If your not planning to recoup some investment from friends and neighbors your right it is a expensive hobby .

Thing is once this is up and running if you find it is not really your thing It is easy to sell and recoup your investment and maybe make a few dollars .

In any case Best of Luck!

On another note, I'm doing a lot of stuff remote and found that about compressors and generators and what will run and will not. Really have to look at specs.

    Good info for others.

On another note, this week turned into a -

Cutting stuff with the plasma for the shop whether it's for scrap, coupons, or even fixing something.

Also was busy cutting back plates for this storage rack our class built. Went ahead and put it all together too.

Today, I knocked out my project within 10 minutes of starting which was basically my first project of 2 holes and 2 slots on a 6" x 4 1/2" piece of 3/16ths steel.

Fun part comes when I cut stainless steel here shortly.

    The storage rack -

    20211014_110906.jpg

Even with a low powered setup, cutting this stainless is easy and smooth -

    20211014_110813.jpg

Also, that project I did my first week of oxyfuel cutting?

I did it again but with plasma. Only did one quick round with each hole/slot and bam -

    20211014_110923.jpg

Not found in the syllabus, I went ahead and gave myself something to do because I can :luvya:

    3998__24067.1565644005.jpg

    Rated up to 25A.

I was using the built-in air compressor which is stupid convenient.

Great for those HVAC jobs in buildings 20 stories up where only one or two cuts is needed

    Week 6: MIG Welding!

Unfortunately, due to getting a really bad fever, I had to miss 2 days on account of my COVID test results processing.

With that said, I returned today only to trouble shoot a few machines (as practice).

Ran multiple beads, stringers and all, even stacking my welds. The red X's are the welds left by others as I'm using scrap -

    20211020_102615.jpg

Here I'm messing with both push and pull methods as well -

    20211020_102621.jpg

Point of the exercise today was simply to mess with the machine.

I'm on a Millermatic 255, and I just put in .035" wire and a new Bernard gun to it. It hadn't been used at all by any of the other classes so I had to set everything up for practice.

Started at 21.5v and 342 wire speed, ended up having to dial down to 20v and 220 with the pace I was going at.

Going to weld up T's tomorrow :angrygirl:
