Reading Ghost Dogs of the South, a collection of short stories of spectral encounters and folk lore about our four-legged friends who have passed on. Picked it up at a small bookstore in Knoxville last week when I was visiting Tennessee. An interesting bit of local history meets Southern Gothic.

I prefer a book even though I’ve never tried one e-book. I want to sit and read without my face buried in a tablet or what not…

I am reading through this as well ( book v ) for the second time and I’m at the part of this story where I’m considering reading Hearts in Atlantis or Insomnia right after. Both of which I’ve read before.
But I have a question. I’m looking for an opinion on when I should read Wind through the keyhole Like between which book in this series. It’s something like Dean Koontz’s Odd Thomas side story in that series. Thoughts?
    Thanks

I just finished "Ghost Rider, Travels on the healing road" by Neil Peart. Not only was this guy a great lyricist for Rush he was also a heck of a story teller. The book was about the death of his daughter who was killed in a car wreak and then his wife dying a year later with cancer. He got on his motorcycle and went on a 20000 mile journey not caring if he lived or died and somehow got through it all. Growing up in the 70s in a very dysfunctional home I used to turn out the lights and crank up the stereo playing Rush songs to drown out the screaming in the other rooms. What he wrote in those songs helped me more than I realized through those times. I couldn't wait to read how he got through the challenges he was facing. It was good reading and if anyone ever lost someone close I think that book would be a comfort. It was little things that we take for granted that gave him hope to go on in the end.

I'm not a fan of e-books. Part of it is not wanting to stare at a screen, another part is I just enjoy the handling and owning the physical books. The only caveat is audiobooks - they're great for passing the hours spent on the road for work.

Stuff that costs more than my wife thinks.
Re-Reading Odd Thomas... albeit very slowly. Dean Koontz can write.

Monthly subscriber to Whiskey Advocate and Car & Driver (the latter of which is just recycle material at this point)

Plenty of online reading, seeing as I work from home as a sales supervisor, so plenty of screen time.

    I prefer 'em. :anonymous::anonymous::anonymous:

My old paperwhite is the perfect travel reader. Lightweight, can be read in any light, whether hanging on the beach or by the campfire. And the best part is that I have a huge library without having to carry a library. If I happen to finish one novel halfway through the trip, the next one is already loaded up.

Currently working my way through Wheel of Time. Halfway through book 7 now.

Same, easy to read at work via kindle and its 10/month versus what I was trying to do buying books and spending 5 times that in a month when I found a good series.

How do these digital books work when you have no internet and no electric .

Do you have Solar Chargers for your devices ??Many a time I would be reading with my Headlamp .

Then again maybe it is what I am used to and feel comfortable with.

For you fans of the Founding Fathers, IMHO Jean Edward Smith's bio of John Marshall is outstanding.

I use the Kindle mobile app. If i want to conserve battery, i'll turn on airplane mode. I usually have several books already downloaded on the app, currently have about 10 books lined up.

Been needing more Sci-Fi lately while waiting for the final Expanse book..
Figured I'd go for Asimov since I haven't read anything of his and he's one of the 'big three'

The battery for my Paperwhite lasts for weeks. As a dude who can't stand staring at a screen for more than an hour or so, that's the only device I'll read on. Those e-ink displays or whatever they're called are voodoo magic.

There is a fine line between Science Fiction and Science fantasy which I like better.

Right now I am just picking what looks go to read again off the Shelf .
