I’m in Canada and it seems that the Tacoma’s we get are not the same as US Tacoma’s. They have different options and packages. IE not DCLB OR. Only access cab and short box. I’m looking to see if I can find a 21 but it’s getting hard to find. The only thing I’ve come across close to me is a 21 Trail cement Grey. But when I look at what’s in the package it doesn’t seem to be a good value as an OR is only $300 more. Am I missing something? Why would someone buy a Trail over an OR? The Trail is based on an SR5.

Trail is just an apparence package on top of SR5 with custom box in the bed.

I would skip it (as I did) and choose between SR5 and OR depending on your need.

Only access cab and short box? Maybe I haven't been paying attention, but I've never seen one of those in the US.

Unfortunately Canadian destination Tacoma's selection are either not the greatest or coveted. The DCSB 6MT TRD Offroad isn't available but the ACLB 6MT is, but this isn't available in the US. The trail for 2021 is a dress up, the 2022 Trail will be better. You may find that you will have to wait until Toyota Canada finally puts up the 2022 Tacoma's on the website before you really know what is out there. As for the 2021 models I think their supply is all but dried up. Good luck with your search. Any more questiuons, feel free to ask, lots of helpful people on this site.

I'd get the Trail Edition just for the controversy.

Coming soon: Compact powered sub install Future mods planned: bigger tires (265/75/16) BILLSTIEN 5100 lift
2022 Trail edition will be different in a few ways and will be released late fall in the US.
    1. it will have bronze wheels and 265/70r16 all terrain tires, Heritage grill with Bronze TOYOTA letters
    2. It will have a 1.1 inch lift in the front and .5" for the rear.
    3. It will have a locking rear dif.

It will still be everything else based on SR5 it was for '21. same chip key, same cloth seats, same goofy bed boxes most will likely take one or both out. Still will only be double cab short bed only.

In my opinion it looks good and a better package sans those bed boxes than the current 21 model. The Lunar Rock even looks good with the bronze to me.

Isn't there a lift too? I thought it was basically less premium off-road without crawl.

Not in 2021. Just lipstick and mascara. 2022 the Trail gets upgrades.

But it won’t have crawl control, multi terrain select, fog lights, or the option to add the premium package.

2021 Trail isn't worth it and for $300 more OR is a no brainer
2022 Trail has quite a few cool things added to it, but it's now more expensive than OR in Canada. It's close to OR premium price.

Right, because it is an SR5. However the fog lights are eliminated because of the lift. Not sure why they do that considering the TRD Pro also, technically, has a lift and has fogs.

No doubt there will be some aftermarket way to get them back some time after it comes out. I official word from Jeff Teage is it was removed for DOT height requirements

They just pull them and put in plastic bezels so it's pretty simple to add them back. And yes, DOT regulations is the official answer but doesn't explain how the TRD Pro, which also has a lift, has fogs.

I was under the impression that the ‘22 Trails come with the new TRD branded lift that Toyota put out recently, which is a 2” lift in the front and a 1” block in the back. The TRD lift also comes with the pro grill and the (stupid) fog light delete, so it sure looks like this is what they are putting on the Trail.

I was going on what was said in the videos I seen on it for the specs. I'm sure it is the grille from the TRD lift, same parts, just change the letters.

@RedWings44 yeah no clue why the pro can have the fogs and not the trail. can't say other than the answer we got. doesn't make sense to me either.

I was quoted about $2500 more then the OR for the 22 Trail in Canada.

That’s why the fogs on the pro sit in the lower quadrant of the bezel. It’s likely that they dont want to give you the LED Rigid fogs from the Pro, and can’t give you the standard cheapo ones due to their focal point being higher than is allowed.
