Wow! So you think I began the post because I’m bothered by those who are compelled to troll? Have you read post #1 and all my other replies? If so, and that’s your conclusion?

OK. I’ll spell out for you- again. Because I’m simply trying to be helpful. I’m not trying to change your mind.
    1. I posted to alert those who may have the valve to be careful to not make the mistake I made.
    2. I posted to provide those of you who know nothing about the valve to understand the possible benefits of using one.
    3. I posted to provide detailed information to those out there that might be considering one.
    4. I did not post to try and convince anyone to get one.
    5. I did not post to try and poke at what someone else wants to do.
    6. I did not suggest this is what everyone should be doing. I simply shared a lot of reasons why I like this valve and possibly there may be others like me. God help them.
    7. This thread also shows me saying, the important thing is to change your oil and not the method you use.

OP, you must have way too much time on your hands to make 2 separate threads arguing for days with strangers on the internet about the merits of a drain plug valve. Who gives a shit? I look forward to your next extended essay.

Looks like you have waaaaay to much time spending on something you don’t care about, lol. I don’t believe trying to help someone as a waste of my time. The problem with much of this country are people who want to censor and take freedoms away- just as you are advocating.

Did this happen with a skid plate installed?

I have had 7 vehicles since 2005 and ALL had a Fumoto valves. Only had 1 seep because it wasnt tight. I have 2 on my current Tacoma.
Love my Fumotos and nothing will change my mind using them.

I’m not sure but I’m thinking he probably did not have a skid plate.

Aaaaaand after reading your original post about finding the valve lever in the "open" position, I finally got off my lazy ass & started using the black plastic clip on the Fumoto I installed last year on my 2019 TRD OR. Luckily I'd saved the clip when I bought & installed my Fumoto F103S LC-10 valve. I don't offroad, yet do as much of my own maintenance as possible on our home Toyota & (despised) Subaru vehicles (timing belts, spark plugs, CV axles, .....).

I LOVE the ability to simply open a valve to drain oil, rather than removing a drain plug & crush washer, reinstalling drain plug/washer & torquing to specs. Color me a lazy Amurkin!

    I drive ~20K miles/year, so expect to change my vehicle's oil 4x/year.

Yes, I don' like having to remove the skid plate. Yes, I hate to have to use my MotivX tools to unscrew the oil filter housing (garbage plastic replaced with eBay supplied aluminiumiumiumium version) & reinstall it, then use a MotivX funnel to gently, lovingly, add oil back into my F'n vehicle!

I'd much prefer a top-mounted "canister" unscrew & discard filter. In the meantime, I'll make do with what I've got. Thanks, @Toyota, for overly complicating what should be a simple effort. :-(

As a former Chemical Engineer x 22 years in the automotive supplier industry & current ICU RN x 13 years, I'll just say "that depends on just how fast/how far you drive."

Thanks for your detailed posts. I'm also 60 y/o, but hope to get my vehicles to a million miles or so. In my dreams! :)

Covid has placed a damper on the miles I drive. My commute, pre-Covid, was 150 miles per day. Now it is ZERO. I now do the same job from the comfort of my home so I won’t be logging many miles until I retire.

Look at you with all that varied experience! Hat’s off bud. Intensive care unit? I’m not man enough to be able to do that job. Thank God he’s made us all different

While working as a ChemE, I volunteered on my local fire dept as a paramedic for 19 years. Always loved my patient contact.....seemed much more "real" than most of my daytime job stuff. When my wife & I were on vacation at my parents' house a few years before I changed careers, I (we) decided that it would be good it I'd become a RN when I grew up. Still waiting to "grow up", despite hoping to retire in another year or two. :)

Major RESPECT Sir My mind still thinks I’m 18 but I’ve got the body, and credit score, of a 60 year old. 2 out of the 3 are good

I want to like the Fumoto, but it would take over 20 minutes for the oil drain down due to the reduced flow rate. I like quick oil changes and I haven't made a mess or had oil running down my arm during an oil change in years. I wear Nitrile gloves for the heat. I would like a simple ball valve, but it doesn't make sense for me personally (I'm not driving a Tacoma so there's still going to be an oil adventure messing with the filter on my current truck)
