That's what I did, started asking about it before they even got an allocation for 2022s and the second they got the allocation info I grabbed it. Toyota wouldn't let them change anything on it but even with premium audio added to the LED/tech package, I'm still saving 4k min vs locally.

Would y’all suggest going through multiple dealers when searching for a Tacoma? Or will all the dealers in the area get the same view to what’s available?

I don’t think it matters. You will probably need to put a deposit down to get one for sure. You may luck up and they get one in transit that someone hasn’t put a deposit on and you can put a deposit on it while its in transit. I personally think they look out for the large volume dealers before the smaller dealerships.

Gotcha. I haven’t put down a deposit, but I have started the search. Meaning I told my sales person what I wanted and she said when something pops up she will call me. Really feel like I’m flying blind, but it is a large volume dealer so fingers crossed. It’s going to be a long couple of months haha.

Well if any dealers are on these boards. Here's my want.

2022 DCLB, TRD OR, 6AT , premium OR, Tech package. Color changes on my mood at that moment.

My Tacoma TRD OR MT lunar rock was scheduled to be built the first week of October but was changed to 10/20/21. Suspect that possibly due to cutbacks by Toyota last month. Following the temporary VIN daily in hopes it “disappears” so I know it’s about to go in production or is already in production. I also understand that Toyota only produces MT every three months. If I am wrong about that, let me know. Good luck to all of you.

When did you put down a deposit?
Looking for a MT as well. Hopefully the next batch is being produced in January?

It was allocated to the dealer in August. Where are you located?

Never mind. I see you are in the Memphis area. What I suggest is shopping around, if you are able to travel, to dealers in all directions. I wanted a lunar rock TRD OR MT but could not find one. I decided to look around online for a MT. All were usually sold but found one out of state in army green and it was sold too. The dealer checked his allocation coming in and he had the very one I really wanted not spoken for so I jumped on it. I would troll the internet if I were you and speak to the salesman to see what is coming down their pipeline. Good luck.

Honestly, not 100% sure how everyone is tracking their temporary VIN other than the link below. If you put your temporary VIN into the site below it will come up with the build and where it will be built. If the last 6 numbers have a letter in it, it is a temporary VIN. Once the letter disappears and the last 6 are all numbers, it becomes a permanent VIN.
Another way to track is through your dealer but I, myself, hate to keep bugging them.
The 2 numbers before the letter on the temporary VIN tell you what week of the year your vehicle is to go into production.
(ie: ••••••••••41A365) The 41 is the week number in the year so it would go into production the second week in October.
If anyone knows a different way to track, please let everyone know.

Found a dealer that I'll leave nameless for now, but what they are offering seems to be, put a deposit down, hopefully an allocation unit comes in of what I want. Vehicle is sold at MSRP+$695 for a LoJack install. None negotiable price. Deposit is fully refundable.

How are you folks getting temporary VINs?

I just put a $250 deposit down the 7th of this month. If I understand this correctly. The vehicle will have to be allocated to the dealer and then a VIN should follow?
