"Probation" is three months at this company. I'll keep the rest in mind.
I like the fact that there is no time clock at this company. They ask that you come in on time which isn't a problem for me.

The workday starts at 8:30AM which will be strange to me as I now have to be at work at 6:00AM.

The new job is 8 minutes away and I don't even have to get on the highway.

I put in my two weeks notice on Monday. I ordered some steel toe boots which should be here today.
I have to drop off paper work today (the usual new hire stuff).

    Been there two weeks.
I leaned a little bit. We are trying to reassemble a gearbox that another company worked on years ago. They had a bushing made up and the inner diameter is wrong. We are waiting to get it back from Hartford if it could be fixed.
Spent most of the two weeks helping place bearings on gear shafts and cleaning/organizing the shop.

Glad to hear you found something. In the interest of helping anyone who wants to find something they enjoy, I'll offer this "roadmap." I'm a mental health counselor and author by trade and I've helped many people find a better career over the years.

If someone comes to me for career counseling and they are "stuck" for whatever reason (injury, lack of motivation, confusion, etc.), I go this route:

    1. Wounds - What's gone wrong in life? What are the messages it brought along? What kind of false beliefs about yourself came from those messages? This isn't an easy topic, but the things that really *hurt* you did so for a reason, and they hit right where your greatest strengths and calling sits.
    2. Identity - Who are you, really? What sort of qualities do you have that stand out? Are you exceptionally strong, strategic, or analytical? It's never hard to find an answer to this. Career Assessments can help.
    3. Story - What's happened in your life so far? Those 20 years in a career that suddenly came to an end may seem like a total loss, but it never is. You very likely picked up all kinds of experiences that can be used to find the next stage of your career. This takes a little unpacking, but it can be done.
    4. Calling - This word tends to conjure up a faith perspective, but it doesn't have to. Either way, what do you dream about doing? What would be so exciting you'd bounce out of bed in the morning in anticipation? This is actually the toughest part because our desires/dreams are often buried or have been dismissed for so long they take a little effort to bring back to the surface. But it'll help tremendously to know what core desires are driving your dreams.

Long story short...with a little help, you can find or recover work that's truly rewarding. If you skip any of these steps (as classic career counseling often does) or you try it without an outside perspective, it likely won't work.

How tech savy are you? A friend of mine did SalesForce training. It’s free through their trailhead program. That’s if you want to change career fields

    Now for a different opinion.

Sick it up buttercup. Quit complaining and blaming others. Get out there and apply for every job you can.

Now I’m not a degreed mental masturbation professional. I’m just a guy who suffered a severe (as in multiple surgeries) back injury. I couldn’t do what I had been.

So I looked at my experience, education and licenses. Change career fields and landed a job within a week of looking.

Don’t cry about how the world has treated you. Kick the world in the teeth and go after what you want.

I’d have hired a one legged man for an ass kicking contest with motivation over a man with out the necessary gumption to take on all comers. The one legged guy would likely win.

How is anything I mentioned "crying" about how the world has treated you? How is anything I suggested an example of someone without the "necessary gumption" you mention?

I didn’t comment on your “roadmap”. I, like you, gave my unsolicited opinion. Based on my life experience not what I read in a book.

Folks can agree with one or the other of us if they want. Or better yet, form their own thoughts on the matter. Differing opinions lead to an interchange of ideas. That’s what communication is all about.

Yesterday I finished a small gearbox they gave me to do. Someone dropped off two gearboxes, one had a broken case and the other had a broken output shaft. I had to make one good one from the two I was given.

I could tell by the persons voice that they wanted to spend the least amount of money as possible (I have a lot of experience dealing with that for as long as I've been working on cars).

Now I think they want me to write up a report on what was done, I hope they don't want in engineering lingo.

I'm now on the payroll. I got a raise and they still hand write their checks.

No direct deposit option i take it? Hand written checks, are you serious?

I just noticed you're in CT, we have a lot less industry and empty buildings than years prior.

They just asked everyone for their info and banking details so they can start doing direct deposit.
They have been doing hand written checks for payroll since they opened in the 40's or 50's. Checks to other companies were printed.

Besides empty buildings, I've also been seeing a lot of Help Wanted signs.

I work for an aerospace parts company and we just went into Salesforce. I’m paying a 3rd party consultant 250$ an hour to configure our salesforce. She’s some nice grandma from Texas. This is very solid advice, they need Salesforce savvy people really badly. I’m tempted to do this myself, If I wasn’t fully employed and in school already…

So I put in my two weeks notice. I did not like what I was doing. Found a tech job at a dealership.
