Without legal hunting the deer populations would explode beyond what in biology is called carrying capacity. Mother Nature would cull the herds and Mother Nature is actually quite cruel by human values. Mother Nature controls animal and bird populations by starvation, predation, and disease. So man can manage various animal and bird (waterfowl, upland birds etc.)populations through hunting or we can let Mother Nature do the killing.

Ok, the subject is wide open now. Mother Nature is cruel. Mankind knows better than Mother Nature on how to run the planet. That's how it works? Take away the predators because they are bothersome to the needs of humanity. Shoot the healthy big bucks rather than allow predators to take out the weak. Build homes on the habitats and blame Mother Nature for animal incursions into the neighborhoods. Prevent forest fires? The best thing ever happened to Yellowstone since we invented Smoky the Bear was the fire of 1988. Mother Nature is cruel? We supply just enough water and grain to starving peoples to ensure that they will continue to starve and suffer. Overpopulated deer? How about overpopulated cows and overpopulated pigs to feed overpopulated humanity? Plow and plant the grasslands in corn to feed pigs and cows and to make ethanol. Dump man-made fertilizer on dead soil and poison the groundwater. Well, guess what... Humanity is so smart, we outsmarted ourselves. We can slow down Mother Nature's remedy of thinning our populations with viruses, but in all our dominant time on earth, we haven't learned that we must cooperate with Mother Nature for our own survival. The earth will heal itself, but as we continue to blindly ignore the clues, mankind's future is not nearly as bright as it's past. We'll have to learn to make changes, or wait for Mother Nature to make her changes in spite of us.

Good morning everyone. It's getting way too noisy here on the porch. I'm off for a walk.

Alan, you rambled on about a dozen different topics. My response was simply about hunting as a necessary management tool. Hunting is actually a way of cooperating with Mother Nature. I didn’t mean to get anyone upset, just stated some facts. I’ll leave this topic alone now.

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch! Back to normal, or whatever. Put up my new wall panels before it gets windy, see what happened to the outdoor GFCI, trim and mow. That ought to do it. And burger night.

Good morning folks! Another working on the job weekend for me, likely next weekend too. Won’t have to do this long though! I applied for SS yesterday, plan to retire Jan.1, 2022, can’t wait!
May do some part time work, if I want. :)

Congrats! And I'd be amazed if you don't find all the part time work you want sitting right at home!

    Morning all:
alan jinxed me, I missed a buck by inches or less this morning------WITH THE TRUCK!
Was driving up to my buddy around 5:30AM, out of nowhere there's a buck in the passing lane heading straight across the highway in front of me, I slammed on the brakes and still don't know how I missed it. I heard a noise and actually thought I nicked it, checked the truck in the dark for damage and didn't see anything, checked it again when we got back and light and didn't see anything, must have been something that shifted when I slammed on the brakes. That came about as close as you can get without hitting a deer, I would not be a happy camper if I had hit that deer and the truck had substantial damage!!!!!!

Guess I'll have to wait for soil to dry out to recover the GFCI. :rain:

Got the wall replaced. You can see the difference in sun passing through on the floor, and it's UV blocking. Hope it helps.

 :hungry: , makes me want some fresh mountain beef even more, some darn good eating there.
When they first opened RT 80 through Pa the amount of deer killed on that interstate was sheer slaughter, the carnage was extensive and everywhere, cars would get their share, but the tractor trailers really mowed them down and often would get multiple deer that were together, you could usually tell if a big rig hit them because there wasn't much left afterwards.

grumble...grumble... mowing is done. Worked slow and waited and waited.....85*/85%. Finished and put away, and here it comes at 15 mph, 80*/50%!

    Oh well, all done regardless.

I don’t do a clean mow now until I put the snowblower on the tractor.
I don’t cut edges or trim. At the last mow I use the sweeper at the same time
Cut edge and trim and that’s it.. for some reason it takes me half the time till then lol

Tornado scare last night. I can see the path on our electric utility outage map. Storms went directly over us. Phone alert about 0200. I silence the cellphone at night. It blared a full volume alert. Successful real-time test.

:pumpkin: Good Morning Porch Pals! Going to be a beautiful day - see if that dries out the soil enough to let my circuit come back. Running the pond on extension to the garage. That much water in the soil is going to trip it, insulated or not! Other than that, it heart exercise day....HOOK 'EM HORNS!

I know I'll still mow at least twice in November, and probably once a month after..... :anonymous:

I've seen that as well on 84.
Used to run the gauntlet at night heading to 3A.
NY border to Scranton with Promised Land area being the worst.
Big rig ahead of me cut one in half and sent it airborne.

    lol

I kinda wait until about 75% of the leaves are down then I go at it one more time.
I kinda want the lawn get a little long before it hibernates. Then I’m good for about 5 months
