That is kind of disappointing, would you do it again knowing the price, and that it's still a TYC part? I've been waiting to drop the cash, because I've tried fixing my fan multiple times, and it just keeps getting worse. I think I would rather have it replaced yearly, than try to take it apart and fix another fan.

I was thinking about that, and I think I would. Knowing that these face possible future replacement..... I do like that I'll never, EVER have to spend money on this issue again.

Pics are really clear. Great job ! Too bad the only solution is to keep replacing it even if it is on their dime after the 2X $ on the part. Maybe you could take some pics of the steps swapping it out next time - make it easy for every ones yearly fan exchange.

I could try to do that at some point. It's really easy.... 3 screws to remove, pull the fan, swap the plug, re-insert. 5 minute job for the most part.

The TYC part should be even easier to replace because the socket for the connector doesn't have the piece that lets it snap and lock into place. It's still held in there firmly but the locking part on that connector was a real pain. I've about destroyed mine trying to get it out of the Delphi part. If you did it once you'd know what I'm talking about.

I know exactly what you mean by that clip. I thought I was gonna tear mine up a few times. Thanks for the input. I think I will order the autozone part, I don't want to drop the money, but that thing is aggravating!!

Well I ordered the Autozone fan, here's to hoping it all works out!

I just bought a roll of Dynomat. If I can make this TYC part as quiet as stock I'll be pretty happy.

    Ok, finished with the dynomat....

    Here are some more pics.

These are the screws you back out to remove the fan, one of them is just off the photo:

Here is a view of everything with the glove box out and the cabin air filter removed from it's slot:

This is looking up into the empty fan housing:

And here, I know you all will laugh at this, is my GHETTO dynomat solution. I didn't want to put the dynomat inside the fan housing out of fear of it one day interfering with the fan blades. My only goal was to put the dynomat between me and the fan. Since it's out of sight, I didn't care at all about how it looked. I also have a great distrust of adhesives in the warm car so I wanted it to be held in place by something other then just the dynomat adhesive. So I fashioned some support out of zip ties. I know, it's REALLY GHETTO. But IT WORKS! and that's really all I care about since I can't see it. This has quieted the fan down enough that I'll run this TYC part until it gives out, and then just go to Autozone and get another..... so, onto the ghetto pic:

It'll work, it'll stay in place, that's all I care about.

I also put a piece of dynomat on the back side of the glove box. The fan is as quiet as the stock unit with the dynomat in place, and the TYC doesn't seem to develop crickets like the stock fan, so I'm happy for now.

Hopefully all the pics are ok for you all. I took them, resized them, and edited them all on my Iphone so it's not professional by any means.

I had mine replaced with the warranty six months after I got the truck. I was initially told to ignore it. I had to argue with the service manager and threatened to go to another dealership before he said he would replace it. I am not looking forward to taking it back to the dealership since it has started to chirp again.

I guess since it isn't anything that puts the occupants at risk, like the accelerator petal, Toyota doesn't want to pay for another recall.

Thanks for your time and effort. I'm impress with the results from the iphone - would have thought it was a camera.

I have been reading about the problems with the fan blower motor,
Is the motor getting hot when its running on low speed?
What gauge is the wiring to the motor?
I am guessing it could be a current problem with the motor, the low speed goes thru a resistor.
If I had this problem I would rewire it from the resistor with a full copper heavy gauge wire.
I am only guessing, but your noise problem could be from raised comm bars, as the comm heats up the comm bars raise uneven, but I am only guessing, but a sure signal is if the motor feels very hot, also a hot motor will simply evaporate the grease or oil you may have coated the end cap bushings with, a good quailty full synthetic grease won't melt when hot.
My Tacoma is a new 2011, only 500 miles,, and I hope I never have this problem, but if I did I would conduct a current test, a frame ground test with a votage drop test, and a paracitic test.
    Your problem could be electrical

No the motor is just a POS. They should have used a brushless DC motor with real bearings. Proven technology. It would still screw up eventually but around the 7 year mark. For instance I have one running here now for 7 years now continuous and it's still running and it's not making any noise. I've cleaned it about once every 6 months but it's also running filtered air so it don't really get very dirty anyway. That's running 24/7. In a truck it would never run like that. That would be like a 40 year life in a truck. Damn engineers don't know shit about anything. Should have asked a electrician. That's why I get ticked off when the think they know everything and there god or something. Could learn a few tricks from people that actually work on this shit and not just read about it in a fucking book somewhere. End Rant ! Price difference? I don't think there is one and if there is it's minor. I think the other motor is actually cheaper cause it's just way more common now days.

you're saying its just a cheap, generic fan motor, OK I will accept that, maybe a creative member of this forum can adapt fan motor from a Chevy truck into the Tacoma?
I can remember back in the 1990's I owned an old 1978 Ford F150 with 156K miles and my fan motor went bad, it just quit, went to Napa Auto Parts and they asked me if I wanted the standard or the heavy duty fan motor, took the heavy duty and it sounded like a freight train and the volume of air that it pushed out felt like a tornado, is it possible that maybe some auto parts retailer has maybe another style or heavy duty one? Maybe the fan motor from a Toyota Camray, or Lexus might work?
You could find a different one that works and perhaps drill different mounting holes, and or design, or make or machine a metal mounting plate to fit the fan motor.
I have a friend at a auto parts warehouse that stocks every part there is, he is an expert knowing that different car makes use the same electrical parts.
Thats what i'm thinking about I am sure the same manufacture is making the same fan motor for Toyota, Ford, Dodge, Kia and so on, and why don't they have problems when Toyota does, so you have to look at the Toyota electrical engineering design, the mounting and so on and see whats different, you have to think like an engineer to understand why they wired it up and mounted it that way.

Unfortunately it's the same damn POS motor. I've noticed some cars have the brushelss DC fan motor installed. That's what we need we need somebody that can try to source a much better motor replacement.. All the ones that are known so far are already listed on this thread. There is also a possibility just the motor part can be replaced with a much better one. Like reuse the plastic parts. That would make the potential field of machines much larger. If you figure out something or find something that works better let us know on this thread.

Just made an appointment to take my truck in. I'll let the dealership replace the damn thing - though I'm sure it will happen again.

I reached my hand in and spun the fan blade. It chirps at one particular point in the rotation. It's very annoying but I don't want to get into disassembling the fan when I know warranty will take care of it.

Truck is only 2 years old so I'm sure it will happen again.

I just bought my truck a month ago and its already doing it especially in this cold weather. I do notice if you run it at high for awhile then return to low it goes away then comes and goes. I believe from reading all posts that its a lubrication issue and poor overall design IE cheap

I can't imagine that choice on the fan used was an engineering decision (gotta protect my fellow engineers). Honestly it was probably an executive decision based on some cost study.
