Fumoto Fact(s) You Might Not Know

10 minutes.... jezus, pull the drain plug you are done in 1.5min.

 

Bet you'll spend more time than I do transferring your oil from the bucket to the jug and wiping up your mess.

For real dude, try the Fumoto, you'll like it, I promise.

 

I currently use the standard drain plug to do an oil change on my Tacoma. I let it drain for at least 10 minutes for all the drips to stop. Meanwhile back at the ranch, I learned from a hobo that an empty bottle of whisky has 12 drops left in it of you hold it upside down

Well I don't treat oil changes like a Nascar pit stop. Flip that switch on the Fumoto and then on to greasing all those zerks and changing out the filter. Doesn't matter if all the oil drains in 1.5 mins or 20 mins, I've never had to sit around waiting for that last bit of oil to drip out and I have the older style Fumoto.

 

I literally dont spill a drop doing a standard oil change and appreciate draining into a pan then pouring into a jug as i can inspect oil for foreign objects. Transferring into the jug takes the same minute or so via a nice big funnel.

Foreign objects? How often are you seeing foreign objects in your pan? I have news, if you're seeing foreign objects in the pan, then you've got bigger problems.

You're still not hearing me. The time savings is real- no more cleaning the pan or the funnel. Bro, I promise the missus wont think any less of you if you come to the bedroom with clean fingernails every once in a while.

 

But then you have to clean the oil pan and that was probably my least favorite thing of all. No matter how you change your oil it’s no big deal UNLESS it was something like my 2012 Subaru Outback. You’d have to wait until the engine cooled to remove the filter. They had that thing up in an exhaust pocket. I traded that car in for a 2019 pretty much because the oil filter is up on top inverted like I’ve done on my Tacoma.

 

Foreign Object Debris. If you in the slightest think you have any sort of debris that you can see with the naked eye YOU are the perfect candidate for my monthly 2 micron bypass filtration system!!! No kidding, my oil is probably cleaner at the 5,000 mile mark than it is when I break the seal on the bottle, lol.

 

I only read OP and I'm not hating on the Fumoto (I've had one before and they're great) but genuine question in reference to #18

When would that be something you'd need to do?

 

Why would I need to remove some oil from my pan instead of ALL of it?

1. I use this drain valve method to help me EASILY dial-in my oil level right to the top line. I overfill it ever so slightly then back it down to the mark. Easy peasy.
2. Some of you who overfill your oil by accident no longer need fret because you too can dial in your oil level. Employing this method that permits you to put your oil level at the EXACT same place every oil change helps you assess if you are consuming any oil.
3. I can also use the valve to take a 4 oz sample from the engine and send it off to be analyzed to determine how much life is left.

I find the valve EASILY helps me drain all of my oil DIRECTLY into a clean jug so I can bypass filter it every month.

 

Gotcha, couldn't think of anything off the top of my head.

How much is Fumoto paying you?

 

Not really there, Chief…. Last I checked, any time you neck down an opening, it’s going to drain slower. Fact of life. It may not be a large amount, but it’s still going to slow down. Also, I said I don’t own a Tacoma, I’m draining 13 quarts per oil change so now, doing math, double your drain rate and you’re pushing 20 minutes to drain the oil. But hey, thanks for correcting my opinion for me, I don’t know what i say sometimes

 

Yall ever heard of peace of mind.? Nope I havent seen any foreign stuff in my oil, but its good to KNOW it.

Time savings, 1.5min to drain, 1.5min to transfer and 1 more min to wipe stuff down during a standard oil change, still less than the 10min it takes just to drain via the valve that you claim.

LOL, if you are overfilling in the first place or fretting over being 1/8th in above a full mark on a dip stick or if you are taking samples and spending money to get samples done outside of OCI's you need to rethink your oil changing strategies.

 

I don’t think they would pay me. Didn’t you catch my initial post that indicated I had a catastrophe? Sure it was my fault and the only BAD thing that happened was I got about 4 ozs of oil on the driveway- wife’s a little disappointed in me.

You’re right. Hey -Fumoto! How about a little love here? A bottle of Bourbon would do the trick!

 

You sound an awful lot like many of my union brothers use to do. They’d line up at the time clock 20 minutes before the end of shift and RUN to their vehicles to only sit in long lines to get out of the parking lot. I would instead wait until the clock was clear and nonchalantly walk to my car. For all their trouble I’ll admit they probably got home 3 minutes ahead of me BUT what they do once home? NOTHING!!!
They move real quick ON THEIR OWN TIME but on the company’s time you’d swear they are on light duty.

I don’t use the valve to save time, although I do, I use it for its ease of use.

Example- I’m installing these today. Not breaking any speed records here. Making an entire afternoon out of it, lol. I love my breaks!

 

That's pretty interesting. I've worked with quite a few aerospace companies (mostly for fittings) for projects I've been on (I'm a PM), the precision and tolerances are mind blowing.

 

Sure. Tight tolerances on forged/machined components. I started in submarines then went to commercial and military jet engines, then to the Space Shuttle Main Engines while ending my career making Black Hawk helicopters, Marine 1 and the big Marine CH-53K aircraft.

Man have I been lucky. Certainly have more than I probably need and assuredly more than I deserve. I am Blessed and pray for the same for all of you
