The Tacoma has been on a 10 year cycle for 30 years. You’ll see the next Tacoma around 2025 or 2026

I actually think this two-tone tailgate looks great aside from the giant TRDpro stamp. I suspect the Tacoma will have something similar. Although, I'd rather it just be TOYOTA like in the before-afore times. I gotta think all those angles and shapes help strengthen the sheet-metal.

Do you think with Covid disruptions that it will stay on schedule or get delayed?

    this and that...
find it a bit weird that the tacoma would get a new generation before the 4runner. the 5th gen t4r came out in 2010. the 3rd gen taco is what, 2016? the 4runner is tired and feels antiquated. it would benefit from the new technology more than the taco would.

Adding "verticality" to the cross section of a shape increases it's stiffness (in^4), which is why you often see webs or rolled vertical edges for structural members subjected to flexural bending. For example, if you bend a ruler, it flexes pretty easily in the flatwise direction. However, if you rotate the cross section 90 deg and try to bend it, it becomes a much more difficult to bend. Stamping the sheet adds vertical cross section to the sheet, thus making it stiffer in the process

Also, to a lesser degree, the physical act of stamping sheet metal does work harden the steel. It causes plastic deformation of the metal and allows the stamped impression to hold it's shape instead of elastically popping back to a flat sheet of metal.

4runner is a global platform the tacoma is not and Toyota is moving all their truck/suvs into one modular global production platform.

In this case the tacoma is a low volume high cost product to get the knife first for their goals. The 4runner? Not so much.

One site says 2023, another 2024. Maybe they are guessing and speculating for clicks? Nah, they wouldn't do that.

Official release info of the next gen Tacoma here...

Explain feels antiquated? It seemed alright to me and how a proper SUV should.

The only thing antiquated is the automatic transmission(which is the same deal with the tacoma). Unless you mean it's styling isn't just a giant soulless screen with nothing around it except RGB distraction LEDs.

4-Runner is a din-o-saur, to be sure. Ancient tranny; ancient motor; mediocre crash ratings (especially rollover safety); poor efficiency. Update is badly needed.

It’s definitely a dinosaur, but IMO it’s the most reliable SUV in the world.
