2021 Speaker upgrade (Please help)

I just went with the Crutchfield setup, the Kicker 47KSS6904 6x9 component with the silk tweeters for the front, Kicker 47KSC6504 for rear, and a small 4ch amp, Soundstream ST4.1000DB to run them. Was going to get a subwoofer but was assured I'd get a ton of bass so will try this. Definitely a good value, under $700 out the door with all the adapters, wires and mounting HW for the tacoma. Only thing I didn't like, I have to manually splice all the speaker wires, no PNP.

 

According to @shortyg83 , the 2020 plug changed. He linked an alternate connector in post #34.

 

Ok thanks I ordered that. I'm just trying to wrap my head around how it all wires up with that one harness. It looks like it is made to be cut in half and you splice in the amps input and output between the ends so you don't have to cut factory wires. I'm sure it will make more sense to me when it's all here to see in person.

 

That is correct. That is a nice set up. You only have to order 1 and you get both ends. To do my set up I had to order each end separately.

Now I just have to figure out where this powered sub that I previously had in my Liberty needs to live.
It's 14" long x 9" wide and 3 1/4 tall at the highest part. I'd like to do under the a front seat. It however may not fit as it doesn't slip under. Can't be sure with out pulling a seat. Or I was thinking in the area behind the left rear seat if I pull the bin on that side.

That I can't help you with, I did a home built fibreglass enclosure and a shallow 10" sub in the right cubby and mounted a small mono sub amp in the left. I found that in almost 4 years of having the truck I didn't use those pockets, so I did that. Right after I do the install, my wife suddenly wants to store her purse back there

 

I do use the left one to keep a few things like waterless car wash and some towels and wipes to clean up inside if I make a mess inside or get a big bird poo on the paint. Nothing on the right side which is larger so it can move there with room to spare.
Funny how it works with the ladies sometimes tho.

 

I like it, I have not looked at the kicker setup so I’m not sure about the difference in pricing. I spent about $800 for the amp, sub and plug and play wiring. The kicker speakers were $186 from Crutchfield and the Subaru tweeters off Amazon were free with my credit card points. I would definitely do it again because it is well above and beyond the anemic factory speakers. I tuned it with the volume set to 50 and I listen to it mostly on 15. Some pandora stations/songs I turn it up a little. Once in a while I crank it to 25-30 but that is just to see what parts of songs sound like, I couldn’t ever listen to it that loud.

 

whatever you all do make sure you put some type of sound deadening in the door cavity.
i did not and the door panels vibrate when playing EDM!

 

2021 DCSB, non JBL (8") here...
Please excuse the ignorance, but I haven't installed a "system" since High School...

If I simply upgrade the front 6x9s and the rear 6.5s with the Kicker CS line, will the factory Head Unit push enough juice to have a noticable difference compared to the OEM trash speakers?

I've already done the Tweeters and was pleasantly surprised - I'd like to not worry about an amp if I don't have to.

It will sound better, but not be any louder than currently.

 

If you don't plan on installing an amp replacing rear door speakers is pointless. Factory HU doesn't push hardly any power to those speakers.

Ok, I wasn't sure...and I've noticed when messing around with the Fade control that when I go full rear (TWSS)...it's dismal at best!

I don't remember the exact part #. I used Crutchfield as a jumping point and did some research on Amazon and Google to see if I could source everything separate for less than what they were doing

 

I put the DS series Kickers in mine right after I bought the truck with the tweeters. I wanted the CS series but they were not available at the time. I think it was a good upgrade and the Kickers are better than stock for sure. However here I am a year later not totally satisfied. I am adding the Alpine Power pack and the powered sub I pulled from a prev car. Doing it because while the new speakers are better the factory head unit just does not power them quite enough. that and I planned for the sub since I had it. it was originally with an Alpine head unit that stayed with the old car and probably was more powerful than the stock radio in our trucks is. it should fill in the low end well but not rattle any windows.

 

Right on man - yeah, my window rattling days are over, but getting some better sound is a must! I used to cruise the "Circuit" in downtown York back in the late 90s!

 

Holly crap me too on occasion.... but for me it was the early 90's! always with friends looking for fast women in slow cars! Agree I am too old for those systems too and annoyed by the music people with them tend to play. better sound! yes please

 

@Speedfreak when you installed the PowerPack did you use the Radio circuit or run a new fused power lead from the battery?
