What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

New tires for me. Not bad for under 900 bucks. Hope they perform well.

First glance at the picture I thought the same

No complaints in the 2" of wet snow I drove in last week with them. Really no complaints in 5k with them yet.

 

I’ll probably end up with a set, just gotta get some 17’s

 

Looks like it. I won't do that though. Hopefully they are good with out them for what I need. The other truck gets the studded tires.

I'll let you know when the snow starts to pile up. Recently found some trails on state land that don't get groomed that I'll be able to drive on. I'll be aired down and no chains though. Not your MO if I recall.

Air down mud terrain tires do better and really deep snow anyway. My main concern for winter performance is hard pack snow and ice basically driving on highways and stuff. Anything deeper than one foot and a mud terrain is going to be better anyways.

 

NICE where did you get the grill?

 

I wish it were easier to do a true side by side comparison between two identical trucks and see if airing down to 10psi or putting chains on is better for deep snow. I feel that airing down will win but many others will think the opposite. I was running a Ranger in CO for a work truck at 15psi and it would go further than the F250 with chains at max or more tire pressure but thats not really apples to apples.

 

Yeah I think the snow conditions would play a huge role in that as well. And what is below the snow too.



Be hard to really get a fair comparison.

Anyone ever stripped the carpet inside the cab and trimmed up the wiring so you can run the floors without anything on them?

I guess it’s mainly the wiring on the driver side below the fuse panel and behind the kick panel. I’m guessing most of that is for power windows and mirrors and the speakers?

4wd computer and cruise control model are under the kick panels.

That said, it's all just wires. If you have the patience you can route them however you want. I don't know of any good examples of someone doing that. But would just to time and staying very organized to extend and run wires wherever you wanted.

 

If you left the kick panel and door trim, most of the wires would be covered. It's been a bit since I've pulled the carpet, but I think the only exposed wires outside those areas are the seat belt on d side and 02 sensor on the passenger.
