Tesla deletes cheap Cybertruck from its website

The Cybertruck has gone into stealth mode.

Tesla has removed pricing and model information from the Cybertruck reservation website, replacing it with a simple "Buy Now" button that allows customers to reserve an unspecified truck with a refundable $100 deposit and says that "you will be able to complete your configuration as production nears in 2022."

The website previously listed three versions of the Cybertruck, with the Single Motor RWD starting at $39,900, which made it the lowest-priced Tesla available in the U.S. Dual Motor and Tri Motor AWD models were also offered at $49,900 and $69,000, respectively.

Tesla, which does not have an active communications office, has not responded to a question from FOX Business as to whether the $39,900 model would still be available, and Elon Musk hasn't yet said anything about the change on his Twitter account.

TESLA LAUNCHING GIGABIER IN CYBERTRUCK-STYLE BOTTLE

Tesla had been aiming to launch Cybertruck production at its under-construction factory in Texas before the end of 2021 but in August confirmed that it was being pushed until 2022, and Musk later said later in the month at the company's A.I. Day event that it would be coming in about a year.

During Tesla's shareholder meeting on Oct. 7, Musk attributed the delay to parts supply issues as it develops a new battery technology that will be used in the Cybertruck.

"So I think most likely what we will see is Cybertruck stock production and the next year and then reach volume production in 2023," he said.

Not really a huge surprise given there is no definitive production date and they had already stated that the three motor was going to ship first. That means pricing a product that is a couple years after maybe late next year.

Also, Roadster 2.0 is no longer on the website.

My Cybertruck reservation still says it's for the dual motor version. Haven't signed into the account page in a long time so I don't recall if it used to have more information besides that.

Today I did something I've never done before. I drove an electric car, a Tesla Model Y long range. (the "slow" one). I have only three words, hole leeee shit! I don't remember ever giggling while driving a car, but my wife and I were like kids. It is by a wide margin the quickest car I've ever driven. I tried out all the whistles and bells, handling, auto pilot, full self driving, heated seats and steering wheel. TBH they were nice, but finding things on the touch screen is going to be a learning curve. The other learning curve will be keeping it at the speed limit, cause it goes like a scalded ape. I kept finding myself at 20 mph over the limit and not even noticing.

The jury is still out on if the Tacoma gets sold, but there will be a Tesla in my garage.

It’s refreshing to hear a review of an electric vehicle from someone that has actually driven one versus someone that does lots of “research” on the internet. Having driven one myself for the last three years, I think the change is as big as the switch from analog to digital media.

I am guilty of being an internet researcher. I've come across a number of very negative reviews of the Model Y and I started questioning if I'd made the right decision. Tesla wasn't allowing test drives the last time I looked, so I was going to rent one on Turo.com. But, I did a quick check of the Tesla web site, and there was an appointment open the next day, so I took it. The first time I punched the go pedal my wife bumped her head on the head rest and was like WTF!? And, I was like WTF!!! We got it up on the freeway and she was all "do it again! do it again!" (She is definitely sold. The negative reviews are bullshit. Some people are only happy when they're unhappy)

I highly recommend people take a test ride in a Tesla. The whole process was super simple. Get an appointment online, show them your drivers license and insurance card, walk to the car, get a 2 minute intro on how to make it go, drive away. There is NO sales pitch, NO dealership BS, just the most fun you will have had in a car since making out in high school.

Will certainly consider an electric truck when styling and price come back down to earth.

That's the thing, those that criticise EV's the most never drove one.

I’ve driven my model 3 for almost 4 years now and it still puts a smile on my face when I punch it, and drive past those long lines at the Costco gas station. Also, other than a set of tires not a penny in maintenance. No visits to service center.

My wife, son and I drove the Y then the fast Y version. The closest thing to describe it would be like acceleration on a roller coaster.
We had the same reaction as you.

Yeah, my family and friends have ‘em, and I’ve driven all the Teslas except the original 2-seat roadster. Fast electric vehicles are super fun. I think most people will be happy with the future.

This is what I did. I added a commuter EV. Problem solved.

I've watched so many EV video reviews. The reviewers often say once people get an EV and start telling their friends how much fun an EV is then everybody will want one. I was like yeah, yeah, so they're fast, have instant torque and throttle response but what does that really mean? It's like describing the perfect steak dinner. All the words in the world cannot convey the whole of the experience.

You literally have to put your butt in the car and feel it for yourself.

I've spent my life driving regular cars and trucks. All my friends and family are the same, regular cars to get from point A to B. The thought that I could have a grocery getter that is faster than the fastest Toyotas, and in the range of BMW M3's and Mercedes AMG's boggles my mind.

Haters going to hate. I honestly don't understand where some people are coming from. However, after seeing how easy it was to take a Tesla for a test drive, the critics really do need to at least try one. Just don't try at the end of the fiscal quarter when they are in crunch mode getting cars delivered.

Another really nice thing about EVs is that you can actually accelerate faster than anything else WITHOUT attracting all the attention a loud exhaust does. It seems like it doesn’t matter what speed I drive my EWG’d Subaru OBXT it’s “too fast” for people in neighborhoods whereas I could fly by them in my Model S and they may actually wave.
