Me and a buddy of mine got back from the Mojave Road last Friday. We went for 3 nights 2 day trip. We started at the Yermo exit off the 15 where the road starts/ends at a wash called Mannix Wash. It was damp and very fun to drive on. It was before Afton Campground.

Crossing the dry lake bed, Soda Lake was an adventure. It started getting more muddy and there was no way to turn around. I was in 3 gear in 4wd had the gas pedal to the floor and was slowing now by each second. Luckily I passed that section and came to a section that I had to cross standing water. I enabled diff lock and crossed it but got stuck. :( Forgot my shovel at home too. So I put some of the firewood underneath the rear wheels and luckily I got out of there.

Overall it was an awesome trip. Tacoma did very well.

Pic of me starting the trip.

Yes, stock suspension. Tacoma did fine. Next month I will change out all the shocks to Bilstein HD's though. I think the stock Bilsteins are shot.

Well I started at the Mannix wash near the Yermo Exit. Not many people start/finish here. Maybe that is why it does not look familiar to you? Its a great place to start/finish. The wash was very fun to drive through.

I think lots of the topography has changed near the washes there since the last big storm we had a month ago that's why it does not look familiar to you.

In this picture, there was yellow caution tape going across. I removed it and went through. No sure if an "official" put this caution tape here.

I did not camp at camp sites. First night I camped somewhere after Soda Lake, I took the 2nd left and camped out near the hills.

Yeah I know. These tires were brand new when I purchased the truck. Do not really feel like getting some more aggressive ones since these are still new.

On the subject of the yellow tape, I believe it was put there by an official. We ran that road the week before (1/7) and found that three foot drop off blocked by yellow tape. We then built that pile of rocks and soil to get through. Overall, it took us 2 hours to get 0.9 miles from the Afton Canyon campground.

Also, we turned around mid Soda Lake as things started to get really slippery. Mud was very salty and hard to get off. Make sure you get it all off, it will eat metal just like salt water.

My favorite pic from just one week before:

If I made it through Soda lake solo in a stock Tacoma then you would have also especially if you had another vehicle with you! I hit the gas to the floor and hoped for the best. Just got stuck once towards the end. Tires were so caked in mud that I had zero traction it was like riding on ice. But that is part of the fun! Did not want to ruin my trip by turning around.

You were with another vehicle. You would of made it! :p

I rinsed off all the mud 2 days later. Spend $30 on a self car-wash using their pressure washer. Most of the time spent was pressure washing underneath the truck.

This weekend I will wash the truck thoroughly by hand as the exterior was just rinsed with water.

By the way, great pics, Chumra!

Yeah, we might have made it, but I didn't want to take the chance of getting stuck and ruining the trip.

This is how we washed off most of the mud:

The Afton Canyon crossing was a wreck. Filled in some spots, deep holes in others.

    Early January:

Generally, the sand was piled up to the tops of the steel bollards placed on either side of the trail. Sand was very loose.

As of last week the Afton water crossing is very low. No more then half wheel deep. Pretty easy to cross.
