Dealer Throws Off Alignment While Making A Repair

Some of you might be familiar with the front body mount issue that causes noises. My 2021 developed that issue at 3500 miles. I took it to a Toyota dealer and they fixed it under warranty. No more noise, but now, the steering wheel shakes and the truck aggressively veers off to the right.

I call the service advisor and he confirms that they had to mess with the suspension to fix the body mount issue and recommends an alignment on my dime. Tells me that Toyota doesn't cover alignments. In which world does this make sense? I was surprised that the alignment was thrown off at all while making this repair, but how can they possible not realign it under warranty before handing the truck back to me?

Apart from this weird case which is still in development, I had a great experience with both the advisor and the tech and I hope this can be resolved so I can continue going back to them.

The question is: Am I the one being unreasonable here?

EDIT: for any new readers, I do have aftermarket suspension. 6112/5160 with SPC UCA, Icon 1.5 AAL, TRD pro wheels with 285/70/17 tires. These parts were installed and aligned professionally.

Regardless of type of component, If a dealer (or any shop) makes a change, are they not responsible for fixing it? For example, if a tire shop damaged your aftermarket wheels during installation, would you not hold them responsible for it?

If you think I’m being unreasonable here, that’s fine. That’s why I posted here because this situation had me questioning my expectations. A few extra bucks for a second alignment after spending over 50k (so far) on this truck isn’t going to financially ruin me. It just doesn’t feel right. What happens when this bushing goes bad again? Pay for another alignment?

 

No. Hell no. New truck they did warranty work on and gave it back with an issue of their doing...

Thats not how that works. if they did work that screwed the alignment up then they need to get aligned to complete the repair

 

They need to fix that. They fucked it up. And how did they mess it up so bad. Those are easy to replace. Then again Toyota techs are hack retards

 

they fucked it up, they do the alignment to fix it, especially if it's under warranty there is no real discussion here.

 

Thanks for confirming that I haven’t lost my mind. This has been so beyond ridiculous that I thought maybe I was the crazy one.

Didn’t do one of these but don’t see why the truck would be tweaked like it is now.
But , no matter, it’s not how you came in with it so they should take care of it..

Not to derail the OP, did you need to lift your cab up in order to replace your cab bushings. I thought there were only 4 but now I hear conflicting statements saying there are 6.

 

Get the dealership service department's response in writing, and the take it up with Toyota Corporate.

 

I'd be raising hell immediately.. I'd also start using a different dealer.

 

Extremely concerning right? I wonder what the "official" procedure is to fix the mount. This is the only thing I was able to find from Toyota on it.

like I said the shop never had a truck come in for this so the procedure evades me.
Not going to assume anything..
It wasn’t the same as when you dropped it off.
If the dealer does to many alignments under warr. It raises a red flag
And the rep says stop it and then a whole shitload of paperwork takes place to do one.
I have done many a free alignment because a job required it and Toyota wouldn’t
Pay. So you get a properly repaired vehicle and I suck pond water.

Call a different dealer. And corporate. That is 100% grade A horseshit.

 

Did you have the cab mounts done before or after your suspension upgrade? Because that could change how we view this.

So two points together, 1) suspension doesn't need to be touched to do body mount bushings, and 2) OP completely leaves out the fact he is on aftermarket suspension.

I think there's a bit more to the story than OP is letting on.
