You can’t do anything with that tool that will change any setting on your car. It’s a code reader. And not a very good one at that.

I never heard of being able to change settings on Toyotas thru the obdII port. Only heard vw doing that.

I agree with your first statement but several of programs and apps let you change Toyota setting through the ODBII port. Carista for one and then there is of course always TechStream.

I’m curious. What can you change? Maybe I can do something as well?

Looks like I'll just be returning this when it comes in. It also looks Carista is what I want. I'll have to look it up and see what it cost and what else is involved.

Research it here and other places. You can buy their ODBII adapter and you get 1 month access to the advanced features in the app. There are other ODBII adapters out there that work with the app also. They do not show the unlimited purchase of the app on their webpage but the app let me buy it for $89. Otherwise after your trial you can get it for a month, three months or a year for $9.99, 19.99 or $49.99 respectively. I just bought it for $89 so that I can use the customization features whenever I would like on any vehicle. My son got everything that he wanted done to his truck with the free trial and never looked back.

Also note that it looks like the customization features that let you make any of the changes above are for Gen 3 Tacoma's. I am not sure if it will make similar changes on Gen 2's.

Edit: I forgot to mention that if you have two sets of tires with TPMS's you can switch the id numbers back and forth in the ECU with the app if you have the id numbers. Good feature if you swap between winter and summer tires.

I could only get the free trial if I signed up for a one month subscription. At least that's what the app told me. I did that and made a few changes, but I didn't have as much control as the advertising lead me to believe. For example, there was mention of being able to change how the front automatic windows work, but that's apparently not a Tacoma feature. I rand the ECU data report and it didn't even report an engine being present.

I'll make sure that the few changes I made are okay and then in a month or so I'll probably sell the module. Unless I missed something and someone can point me in the right direction.

Which adapter did you get? I remembered seeing some power windows settings with mine but didn't look too closely at what they did. I also have several ECU reports from mine. I run them and then there is a setting to share them. I send them to myself via email. I would post one here but it is very long.

I got the Carista adapter and used their app. For the ECU report, I know the engine needs to be running, but should I also drive around a bit to get a better report?

Maybe those power window settings only apply to some trim levels. I have a 2019 SR5 DCSB, I see you have a TRD and a Limited.

For the ECU reports I had the engine running but did not drive. It does take a while though. You have to give it time.

I let it run all the way through and that's the report it ran. I'll try it again tomorrow and see if it was operator error.

After almost a month with Carista I'm sorry I wasted the money.

    1) The free trial is only free if you buy a one year subscription first. So, it's not free.
    2) It doesn't do, at least for my SR5, a lot of what they advertise it will do. Maybe it does for the TRD and higher trim levels, but about the only thing I could do was change the lane change flash from 3 to 5.

I emailed them to let them know that I am dissatisfied and I'll post their response in this thread.

At this point I think that someone will get a good deal on a used a couple of times Carista box. Unless I'm missing something that it.
