how did sliders save you from a front end collision?

 

Well, it may be a little dramatic, but, take a look at the picture below. The truck went airborne and landed on the drivers side. It slid and spun around a couple times before coming to rest.

You can see how the scrape marks are mostly towards the middle and top of the door. The windows are intact. Even the vent visors.



I'm not a accident investigator but considering how badly this looks and how the bed got pushed about 4" over to the passenger side I'd say the sliders had a lot to do with my positive outcome.

Thanks State Farm let me down hard on all my mods. Fortunately I had enough equity in it so I had a little for the downpayment on the replacement.



No, at that time we hadn't even considered it. We adopted Phoenix at the beginning of this year and Maisy just a month ago.

I don't even want to think what would have happened otherwise

 

Looks like a nice upgrade! You were able to keep your old wheels?? I'm actually surprised you didn't go with a full-size after that accident. Let me guess, you threw those rock sliders on there immediately?

I hadn't thought about the insurance bit - not something that gets discussed on here much regarding mods.

 

Well, I had put so much time and money into it to making it (a TRD Sport) more off-road capable, and it was finally ready. So after the dust settled I had a friend on the Maryland thread to tell his Toyota salesman son to contact me to set up a deal. Just so happens there was a year end 2019 Pro and the price was amazingly right. Hell, there was even a buying incentive for the Desert Air Intake so even that was discounted. I figured most of the hard core mods I had done to the Sport were already there, and then some. I took it off road immediately and as a stock Truck with only different tires I was completely satisfied.



As far as the wheels go. I was most likely the only Tacoma owner on the East coast with the SCS Brushed Copper Ray 10's. At that time they were considered a custom color at SCS so very sought after. As a result of the accident one wheel was crushed, another questionable and a third had severe road rash from the slide. I had a spare but............for me to get them off I would have had to go to the recovery yard and replace them with something. There was a small window to do this during the week from 8am - 4pm. That means I would have to take someone with me to do most of the work. No electricity so battery operated tools only.

So yea, definitely check with your insurance carrier. I had over $6500 into it and even though I had every receipt, and detailed installation photos, etc, State Farm refused to insure it. Unless it was OEM or came from the dealer/factory with it I had to bend over.

So in the case of aftermarket tires and wheels, they didn't even consider those. None of the armor (including a full belly of aluminum). None of the lighting. None of the suspension. I even lost the bed mat in the process.

I am not in a hurry but I am not sticking with State Farm. I want to shop around, get a better deal and definitely get my mods covered this time.

 

Were they very responsive? I purchased the same ones on the 11th and followed up with a few questions that day - nothing. Also, they do look great (same truck, but white), so I'm glad my impulse buy wasn't fruitless.

 

How do y’all feel about 0' v angled sliders? Would like the angles for the protection but something that could be used as a step if needed would also be nice. Anyone have the caliraised trail edition sliders? Are you able to step up on those at all?

I'm on my second set of 0° sliders. IMO anything is a step. How well it functions as one though is going to depend on your own personal need/want. If you want a slider to be a step 0° is a better option. I've also had tube steps, running boards and even the OEM Predators. On trucks and SUVs.

What I can tell you is, no matter what, the closer you are to a natural step, the better it will be in terms of safety & comfort entering/exiting the vehicle. Something to keep in mind with elderly or younger passengers.

This should be an investment, and an enhancement. You should definitely get the fill plates if that's an option too! My dogs benefit from them on mine. They also double as mud/snow guards.

Victory 4x4 definitely came out nice

 

I definitely prefer the low-key look of the angled sliders way more than the 0 degree, but if you need a step for kids or dogs or whatever, then it is what it is... For reference, these are the Caliraised 25deg sliders with kick out.

Our trail edition sliders are tucked in making it harder for passengers to use the slider as s step when compared to the step edition slider. Here is an angle of how tucked-in the trail sliders are to give you a good idea.
