Went to a funeral for a friend today, that sucked. The man was only 41 years old. But he suffered with kidney failure for a long time so now his suffering is over. So I broke out the universal suit that's only worn for weddings, funerals, and court! And I went and said my goodbyes. Was tough though. So now I'm home, having a cup of coffee and trying to get my emotions back to normal a swallow my heart.
Once I get chilled out a little ill go and work on getting the last of the trim up for the garage.
We had a couple days of rain but maybe I can get mine cut tomorrow, I usually cut until the 2nd week of October and then drop the mower one notch and cut it short for the winter hibernation.
I'm hoping to get the trim painted tomorrow so maybe the roofers can come next weekend.

Sorry to hear about your friend. it’s a tragedy especially when it’s at such a young age.

    Afternoon all:
Way too young for life to end for your friend Greg, condolences to friends and family.

I often told my young buddy Jim that anything can happed to you at any time to end your life. I was just reading about a small plane crash where it literally fell out of the sky and hit a house in a residential area, two residents in the house were injured, the pilot was killed, but the crazy thing was that a UPS driver who was delivering a package to the house was also killed. He was at the wrong place, at the wrong time, and the odds of that happening have to be astronomical, when your times up your times up and there is nothing you can do about it!!!

I have always found that working is a great way to get your mind of what troubles you and re focuses you so I went to work on the last of the garage trim .
    Just working with 1x4 today.
    20211016_150926.jpg
The 2 faces are now done.
    20211016_151259.jpg
And here you can see how the 1x4 will cover my mistake of cutting the plywood short, lol.
    20211016_151323.jpg
This short board on the bottom looked like crap and had a gap on both ends.
    20211016_155630.jpg
And it no longer covered the end of the face board.
    20211016_155636.jpg
So I cut new ones for both sides.
    20211016_161230.jpg
And I covered all the seams of the plywood.
    20211016_163242.jpg
Ready for paint now. I'll get started on it tomorrow and at least get the face boards done so the roofers can come and do their thing.
I always find that working is good therapy for the mind and soul.
One of my favorite places to be is in my woodshop but this is a close second.

    Morning all:
It's about time, finally starting to cool off here.
ML season opened yesterday for doe only and bear, I didn't even go out! Didn't miss much, my buddy and his grandson didn't see a thing, and another buddy who was in the same general area saw a big bear that was in high gear running through the woods but it was too far away from him to even try to get it.

And a good morning it is! 68 degrees at 830 AM and the humidity broke. First morning in the 60’s in about 6 months. I can finally work in the garage without sweating my ‘nads off. Also means all the deferred yard work has to be done. Flower beds look like hell, banana trees and split leaf philodendrons need trimmed, I’ve got left over pavers from when the pool deck was redone a few years ago that I would like to make a little walkway out of. Maybe I’ll just have another cup of coffee and think about it….

Growing up in the Promised Land I am the only one in my family that has never hit a deer with a vehicle. Hope I didn't just poke that sleeping bear, or worse yet a moose. When I was back "home" on recruiting duty in the 80's I did have a deer run into the side of the government vehicle on Rt. 6 At O'dark thirty on my way to MEPS in Wilkes-Barre one morning but that doesn't count :p

Starting 3rd week of grouse hunting in a cabin in the Mn. Arrowhead. Lot warmer this year than last year.

Hated to leave the old man behind this year but have his one year old son to train and that is best done by himself. First year is for him to have fun and get birdy. Friend that is with me is a pro hunting dog trainer (semi retired) and extra hands are good with a pup.

He is already great at finding birds, brings back to feet will worry about delivery to hand next year LOL. In the meantime everyone is having fun!

Oh and good morning! More coffee. Too many people in the woods today time for a break.

Beautiful pics. Mike, I used to hunt grouse, WHEN PA HAD GROUSE, and got pretty good at it, we seldom see them anymore.
I always thought good grouse dogs were hard to come by, something about they didn't like the smell of the birds?????

Yeah I grew up in Potter\Tioga County, and on recruiting duty in the 80's added Bradford County and we used to have a LOT of grouse. Took my youngest son back for youth deer and pheasant season what is now a long time ago. But not a lot of cover the big woods need cut badly. A lot of research done on West Nile Virus but everything points to lack of proper habit. They are starting to cut more and succession growth is important for grouse and also deer.

Woodcock is what many dogs don't like the smell of, most dogs are OK with grouse. I've watched many dogs blink on woodcock.

Woodcock are difficult to cook and to have them done right you can't over cook them. And a lot of people don't care for the earthy taste of woodcock but if done correctly they can pretty tasty!

I normally hunt SD for pheasant with a couple of other retired Navy guys each year, the Admiral ended up buying a house there. We all hunt grouse and woodcock first and then bring our woodcock to SD for woodcock Cristina Di Beccaccia. It is really tasty and a great appetizer.

We don't exactly rough it in SD and being a retired pit snipe Chief I am honored at the education those in the Wardroom have provided me.

zzzzzzz :pccoffee: OH! Good Morning Porch folks! Yep, I was sleeping in and loving it. Beautiful day for doing nuthin' and making my friend Scott's mustard ribs. Had a hard time buying them, though. WallyMart usually has several cooler locations - had NOTHING from Smithfield. Went to HEB after the game, and NO Baby Back, just "Back Ribs". They had HEB "organic" (!) at 4x last weeks price, and some Swift at a mere 2X. I just got one for now. Looked for info on shortages or delivery, but was all "last years news".

    Love that sunset.

"Red sky in the morning, sailors warning."

"Red sky at night, sailors delight."

My grandfather grew up on the sea and often would cite that verse to my mother growing up.

    Nice!
Don't think I've seen a "proper" sunset over water being on the East Side.

Get lots of nice sunrises though.

Well today was painting day on all the new trim boards. I folded the tarp back and nailed it down to keep it out of my way. And then I had at it.
    20211017_131707.jpg 20211017_141401.jpg 20211017_160941.jpg 20211017_161258.jpg 20211017_161334.jpg 20211017_161357.jpg
Now I'm ready for the roofers to do their thing. The whole garage will get a scrape and repaint next year, this year was all about replacing rotted wood and correcting bad repairs and years of neglect and a leaking very bad 2 layer roof. I'll be happy once the new roof is on. Hopefully next Saturday. We are supposed to get some rain on Thursday, I hope it's not a lot as the edges of the roof are exposed all the way around.
