I used the 2nd gen kit. It has been fine. I did not want to deal with adjusting the body gaps.

I had read some people that used the universal mounts had to adjust the hood, or hood latch or something. Apparently they aren't the same height as the factory pieces.

Is it the washer that's causing the metal to metal clunk? If so, why not use a non metallic washer. Just thinking out of the box.

For this bushing people speak off, is this for the front cab mount near the door? Or is it a lil up further. And could anyone link the kit? I'm confused and having a hard time trying to see which is what, and what I need. Thanks

Have installed my bushing, passenger side went in like a breeze, driver side was Hella misaligned. Had to winch the body backwards to align with the frame. Though I still get those squeeks

Just had this same issue on my 22 Trd off-road with 800 miles on it. Dealer replaced and documented , really hoping this isn’t a continuous thing like OP. Thanks for the great post and updates!!

Thanks to another member on here for suggesting the body mounts, after describing my noise, pointed to this as possibly being the metallic clunk I hear over sharp bumps on my 2020 TRD Pro with 19,000 miles on it.

It's going in Friday for a different issue and I had mentioned this clunk, thinking it was a control arm or suspension issue.

Thanks for that video! I'm now almost certain this is it and will make them check.

They heard the noise and replaced the body mounts after removing one and seeing it was worn.

BUT, it did not cure the noise.

    Same rattle is present.

Now the dealer claims it's 'normal noise for off road shocks'. I called FOX and they said their assemblies should not under any circumstances be rattling, thumping or clunking.

FOX pointed me to a service bulletin from Toyota to dealers about the 19-20 TRD Pro 4Runners that use a similar Fox shock assembly up front and have the EXACT same rattle.
For those trucks Toyota has ordered that both front shock assemblies be replaced to fix it with a TSB.
    TSB https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10181779-9999.pdf

So far I can't even get the service manager to email or call me back so we'll see where it goes. I sent them the TSB to prove Toyota knows those years of Pros have issues with the exact noise I'm hearing.

This short video is another Pro owner with the same rattle.

Interesting info thanks. My noise is not as bad as in video..yet. My appointment for drop off is Dec.30 so Im information gathering now. Maybe service manager wont get back to you because TSB is for 4runners? That would be great if you could get those front foxes replaced under warranty and clears up the noise. I see part number on my front is PTR61-35201, which probably is equivalent to new part number fix on 4runner TSB.

I have been chasing an annoying clunk on my 21 and this has given me one more possibility.

Makes sense since it is intermittent, at slow speed, over speed bumps and drainage trays.

No, that's not how my letter to him was worded.

We're all well aware that a TSB for a 4Runner is not a TSB for a Tacoma. That's not what I spoke to him about and I didn't try to get the Tacoma warrantied under a 4Runner TSB.

It is merely pointing out that Toyota Corporate is well aware that the Fox front shock assemblies make the exact same noise as I'm having for nearly identical assemblies from the exact same time period under the exact same conditions, colder temp, clunk/rattle noise, etc.

The service manager did write to me. He was looking into the issue on his end and talking with the techs. Understandable.

He was very nice about it all and asked what I'd like to do about it and what I thought the issue may be. I said I'd like them to look deeper into the truck's front end. Maybe it was a faulty assembly or maybe it was simply parts coming loose or whatever.

As of this morning he wrote back to say he has ordered two new Fox front strut assemblies and they should be in next week or so. The work has been pre-approved under my Platinum Toyota VSA warranty per his email.
Truck is technically a few weeks out of it's 3 year factory warranty, but covered until 2030 under the VSA I bought with the truck.

I'll let you know how it goes after the repairs. I hope this is the fix to that rattle.
