Thanks! Its only currently secured at the back via L brackets that attach to the bed front rail. I've toyed with utilizing the factory bed bolts at the bottom but it is already so tight against the walls that it doesn't move at all. With the tailgate locked it is going to take some real determination to break into it.

Yeah that's one advantage of spanning the length of the bed. Kinda wishing I went that route. But I'm only making a drawer for the passenger side using 1010 extrusions. It's only as high as the wheel wells. But maybe there is a way to still use L brackets. Inverted, perhaps? But I still need a solution for the tailgate side so there isn't lateral movement.

Bestop just came in! Only took 6 days to get here! Love the look and can't wait for the future build to get more parts! :)

Just got back from a drive out west 7K miles, and camped with the softopper out and back. The Softopper did great, and survived a wind that put the fear of god in us! WHOA, that was a breeze!.

Today I needed the bed open to carry the bicycle, so I folded down the canopy and wrapped it in it's cover. Stowed folded at the front of the bed.

But what to do with the tailgate bar?
Sure , throw it on the floor of the bed, it's doesn't take up any room. It's too long to fit sidewise in the bed. I wish it had those spring loaded bullet catches so the two end extensions could just slide into the main center bar. But. the directions indicate "Drill for the provided tapping screw, and attache together".

The little things....... I'm looking for those flat spring bullet catches , any help welcome...

I am looking to buy one of these soft toppers for a camping setup! Can anyone who owns one answer a few questions I have? 1) on either the Softtopper or the Supertop, can you close and zip up the back window and talegate from the inside. I have been searching all day scouring videos and photos and can’t seem to figure out if the zippers are double sided. 2) on te Supertop, can you open the back window without opening the talegate first? The videos I have seen make it look like the metal bar is tucked in such a way that you would need to open the talegate before you could open the back window.

I have been leaning toward getting the Supertop for my camping setup, but depending on the answers to these questions, I may have to pull the trigger on Softtopper. Thanks!

Softopper zips are double sided, you can open from the inside ( They also make other rear window options including a solid panel / no window, and a screen panel ).

    Don't know about that Besttop.

I can only answer about the softopper but it's been my only "tent" since I bought it. Haven't slept in anything else while out. Torrential downpours don't phase it. I've camped in the winter in it. I use the mesh screen in the summer. Can open the back without opening the tailgate but it's obviously way easier to get in and out with it open.

Why Bestop over Softopper? I'm getting ready to pull the trigger.

I personally love the look more and also they bought Softopper and in my head, why not go with the company that bought the other, ha. Thats just me though! I will say though, accessibility in the Softopper is a bit better just because with the Bestop in the back panel, you have to take the bar out of the way entirely while the Softopper, you can roll it up with the bar in the back. It all depends on what you are using it for.

Thanks! I pulled the trigger on the Softopper! Mostly because of the zipper being double sided and the option of the mesh screen. Bestop would have no easy way for ventilation when camping in it. Although I would have liked some windows on the side… anyway. Thanks for the help.

There is a dedicated thread for the comparison discussion. IIRC it's going on 10 pages ;-)

    Just some stuff...
I don't know if somebody already figured out why the side rails seem to migrate inwards, but I think I have an idea. Seems to me when I over tighten the rear straps they start to slide a bit and I wind up having to loosen the clamps to move them back out. It took me a while to figure it out. Now, after tightening the front straps I just snug the rear ones down a bit and the rails seem to stay put. I sure hope I'm right. I'm getting tired of not being able to snap the rear cross bar in place.

I just got my tan Softopper after 7 weeks. Super easy to set up, makes my truck look completely different, I love it though!

I love the tan! I think it’s my favorite color for the softoppers.

Anybody got the gray top on a magnetic gray metallic truck? I've got the blacked out trim so I think probably a black top, but would like to see gray on a gray truck first. Thanks.
