    Everyone can relax, I'm not taking the feather home. If I kept everything I found on one of my walks I'd have to move into a bigger place just to store it all.

    It’s amazing how you can find an old car in the woods and the frame is still solid but a 10 year old Tacoma frame pretty much disintegrates.

    I really don't understand how people survive in the rust belt. It's crazy. Fifty years ago they all had body rust... but frames? Frames would last while the bodies disappeared. If they can make a body that doesn't rust out... why not the undercarriage?

    Are Tacos the only vehicles with the problem?

    If they made cars to last 50 years a person would only but one in their lifetime. Even with increasing population the sales wouldn’t support the industry.

    Long ago some smart fellow called it “built in obsolescence”.

    Nope. Family member lost a Cavalier and a coworker lost an F150 to frame cancer.

    I'm seeing a lot of 5-6 year old Silverados with body rust starting at the wheel well. It's a shame.

    I once worked with a guy from Maine. They would open air carport keep their vehicles during the salted winter months and just plug in the block heater. If the salted sludge doesn’t melt it can’t oxidize as fast and rust takes longer to develop. Plus they’d heavily undercoat them with some Fluid Film or similar. $200/5gallon type stuff. Theory sounded solid but I’ve never had to deal with freezing temps no more than 5-6 days a year down here.

    How old were the Cavalier and F150? I bet it was a lot older than the Tacoma’s that need new frames. Even with Toyota’s frame inspection program they only warranty the frame for 12 years after date of first use. That’s pretty pathetic to basically have to throw away a vehicle after only 12 years.
