Tundra downsize to Tacoma??

Interior, bumpers, a bunch of electronic stuff, keyless entry, etc.

 

Whats different about the bumpers and interior? Design stuff on the bumpers I do not care about, and I assume you can just remove the plastic air damn on the bottom. School me on the interior. Would it be something a leather kit couldn't remedy?

 

The electronic stuff , i have no need for.

 

I get 24-25 mpg highway on Tacoma. The mpg on your tundra is only 1mpg less?

I get 14.3 in my tundra with 33s . The tacomas I've test drove dash display were 14.5 and 15.3 fwiw

 

They meet completely different needs. I love my Taco but I know very well I dont have the need for a full size truck. I wouldn't tow more than 4000 lbs if I ever needed to, and it has a tight space inside the cab.

That being said, it's been perfect for my home needs. Hauling trash, furniture, gravel(few trips), mulch and wood. My push mower and weed eater also fit great. It's a small truck for small jobs. Keep that in mind.

That being said, driveability and parking in the city is as good as a large sedan. It's really good and nimble around tight spaces.

Off roading is where this truck also shines.

I'd say if you dont need the capability of a full size, and the lack of low end torque compared to the Tundra then go for it. You wont regret it.

 

Different info-tainment system, small screen vs big screen in the TRD OR essentially. Different gauge cluster set up. I believe you also get the dual colour seat (dark on the bolsters, lighter grey in the middle) with an intricately woven design if you look close enough on the ORs, but not the SR/SR5s. Potentially a sun/moonroof but I don't have that option in Canada in my set up so someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

Of course, like you said, electronic diff lock and crawl control/multi terrain select.

edit: For the price difference of an SR and OR it may very well be entirely worth it to you to rock an SR or SR5 and add what you want and tailor it to you, instead of buying a TRD offroad for the interior upgrade, e-locker and crawl control. I will say though, the crawl control has a history of saving people from some pretty sketchy icy situations if you think you'll ever run into a bad ice storm.

 

I am no where near replacing my 2017 Taco, but the Tundra is my next choice. My father is on his second Tundra and they have been perfect for him and his uses.

 

Bumper is unpainted plastic, I believe you may lose power seats in the interior (may be wrong) and you'd get a smaller head unit screen.

 

I was looking at sr packages earlier this week, and I think they did away with the black bumper thing because one of the 9nes I saw was an sr , and it had a color match bumper

 

Decided I think I'm going to hang on to the tundra for now. Tacoma is definitely my next truck, just not right now. I have dubbed her the fat taco lol

 

I went from an '08 Tundra (5.7l) TRD Off Road to an '18 Tacoma TRD Off Road. The '08 was preceded by an '00 Tundra TRD Off Road. We had been towing a 28' Travel Trailer, downsized to an '18 TT after the grand kids left the nest. Love the Tacoma. The 3rd gen. Tacoma is just a few inches, here and there smaller than my '00 Tundra was (wish the Tacoma had the 4.6l V-8 for towing though).

 

Holy hell. May have just convinced my wife into selling tundra , buying tacoma sr5 to daily AND getting trail jeep for the money I get from the tundra

 

I've got a Sequoia with the 5.7L and I HATE it every time I immediately go back to my tacoma. However, after a day or two of getting used to the tacoma again it isnt an issue and much more enjoyable to daily around. I say if you don't need the space of the Tundra then go for it. If we didnt have the Sequoia to lug the little ones around, the tacoma would have been gone long ago.

 

Ok guys want opinions. I'm looking at a deposit for an access cab sr5 4x4 superwhite with dark Grey wheels. Plans would be 255/85r16 tires, stock wheels , 1.25 spacers , ome suspension, soft topper and Eaton elocker. I think I like this option better than trd offroad 1) I like the color matched flares better and 2) the trd offroad only option I care about is the locker , and it can only be engaged in low range. I would never use crawl control, and would be ditching the suspension anyway. Any concerns in axle strength between sr5 and trd of? Or anything else I may not be considering

I got 14.5 on my tundra whether pulling a trailer or not. Friggin truck was addicted to gasoline. This tacoma has been far better with nearly 23 mpg most of the time.

 

Wait for the next gen Tacoma, probably be a perfect fit, anticipating it will be world-beating mid-size, not just in sales and resale value. You might have seriously regreted switching to a current Tacoma

 

Idk I've heard that it's supposed to be a tundra mini me and I don't like the new tundra at all

 

For what it's worth, I went from a full size crew cab f-150 to a double cab tacoma. Anytime I go out in the bush I feel storage and space is a struggle. I definitely miss having a full size truck. But I also love this truck for going out in the bush, it just feels cramped compared to other full size trucks. And a little gutless at times but whatever.
