They could just go to a DC fast charger to top off the mobile pack.

One can only hope that the first idiot calls for the EV powered van to charge their EV, but the EV van runs out of E about the time it gets to the original V. Now there are 2 Vs out there calling for 2 more EV Vans to come rescue them. And the cycle continues because you can't fix stupid.

Well if you can't add or subtract you shouldn't buy an EV. It's not the EV's fault, it's the user.

There are a huge number of electric freight trains hauling products and materials across the nation.

Oh.....wait..... Sorry, these are DIESEL powered engines running a huge ass GENERATOR to power the traction motors on the wheels.

Semi-trucks are going EV......oh....wait.....no, sorry diesel powered too.

Construction and Farm equipment......no, sorry, fuel powered too.

Seems there are serious limits to batteries when it comes to heavy work or long distance.

As long as it is in the parking lot at the trailhead I am okay with this. On the trail itself...no.

Now, I do believe an EV can be a reasonable alternate for large cities and commuter rides.

Although, long hauls or heavy work.....fuel will be the prudent choice for many more decades.

It all comes down to energy per pound. 1000 lbs of fuel (gasoline, diesel, nat gas, coal) will provide more energy than 1000 pounds of battery.

I remember a year or 2 ago seeing a meme about a prius being charged with a diesel generator. I googled, but can't find it.

Based on the amount of fuel required to power the generator to generate enough electricity to fill the prius, it came out to something like 3.6 MPG.

I'm not as opposed to seeing it in a parking lot....which is already not "natural." But on a trail....oh, hell no.

These aren't going to be on any major trails. There will be a couple dozen at the start of some service roads or something but that's it. The stations themselves still have to connect to power lines. A solar array powered station in the middle of nowhere wouldn't have enough juice to charge a couple dozen rigs per day on busy weekends or whatever.

    :rofl::rofl::rofl:

So, you're saying the Ford EV truck is on the same level as heavy construction equipment? Say like a dump truck or a garbage truck.......

You have been sucked in by Marketing speak. Those fork-tongue devils.....

If that's what you meant then obviously no. I thought you meant regular consumer work trucks.

If they use solar and battery storage you won't need electric to be run to them.

Read the second part of my post. I'm not anti-EV by any stretch, I just don't think the solar/battery combo would be enough to charge a couple rigs in an efficient fashion.

They should if they are DC fast chargers. A line of vehicles one after the other, most likely not and the tech isn't anywhere near that. If the owner charges beforehand, like a gas vehicle fuels up beforehand, all should be fine.

But again the issue comes down to storage capacity of the charging station itself. You can't solar charge overnight because no sun, and it's going to be run down during the day. So unless you have a couple acres of panels next to each one of these it won't be enough to charge the stations battery and the EVs that are charging off it.
