Tailgate Light Bar

I keep seeing a module that is said to be necessary for vehicles with reverse cameras. Looking into the 48'' opt7 triple led but no one talking about it on any thread here. Just the curt wiring adapter is only necessary?

 

Get the curt adapter and a bullet connector to wire the reverse light and you'll be all set. It's actually a real simple install, and I followed this guy's instructions. I did use 3m locking velcro so I can remove it to access the spare if needed. I didn't remove the tailgate, and using the bullet connector means you don't need to solder the wire.

I have the bar on my truck. used the curt harness, and some plastic "velcro" with 3M trim tape to install. The bar was easy to pull off when I had a flat to access the spare and after repairs to return the spare.

I don't have the trailer package (2WD SR) I just hardwire the wires to my left tail light, but how to make the signal light on the LED light bar works? I connected the green and left to the brake light.

 

Mictuning (27” triple led lights) in aluminum casing is another option. Two piece and you’re clear for the spare tire at all times. Installed on 21 Trd Pro using trailer conn for temporary but also can be hard wired as well.

Opt lightbar is garbage I had one it started to drain my battery while the truck was off . Took it off and the problem went away .

My bar has been on the truck since March '17 excluding the one day (3 or 4 hours actually) I removed it due to a flat. Have not had a single problem with it. I used the 4 pin hidden hitch adapter and tapped the driver's side tail using a bullet connector to the bar for the reverse lead. For access to the spare I used a plastic velcro like strip in each side of the access hole. I can pull the bar off and have left just enough slack in the lead line to lay it on the bumper while changing the tire.

This is my 4th Opt7 bar through 3 trucks. The 1st bar (had plastic back vs the aluminium that is now used) was damaged by a tire shop when they were trying to access the spare tire.

Mictuning may be a good option, I have switches from them that have worked fine. Did not see their offering when I got this truck, though I likely would have stuck with Opt7 since I have had good results with them previously. The split design might have made the install and any work with the spare a bit simpler.

Any video/photo of what this looks like on the backup camera? Should it be installed with the backup light on the top or bottom?

 

You need to install with right and left orientated correctly or your blinkers will be flashing the opposite direction as the tails. The wire lead will be on the driver's side when installed correctly. As I recall that puts the reverse across the top of the bar.

OPT 7 all the way! Love mine.

 

On the OPT7 I used 3M heavy duty outdoor Velcro so I can easily remove the bar for a spare tire drop down.

Well ain't that smuckin' fart.. then if it craps out its an easy swapout

I keep seeing tailgate strips with sections burnt out. I guess unless you test it regularly its bound to happen.

 

That’s why I went with Redline’s OPT7. High quality and sealed in a aluminum holder. Plus I believe it’s either a two or three year warranty and they can fix any lights that might go out. It’s those cheap strip lights that always craps out.
