I’m looking at buying 2016-2018 Tacoma in the next days or week

I am thinking going with a off-road I like the idea of crawl control

Just looking for info I should know before buying mainly looking for 16 or 17 but if price is right I’d get a 18 or 19

    thanks for any info

Know that in the current market craziness you are going to over pay.

But if I was hot on buying a 3rd gen I'd likely go '17 to avoid the nanny poo that came with '18+.

    The 16/17 is pre TSS.

I have a '17 and had zero issues with my truck. 55,000kms. You can't go wrong with one.

Being that you are from New Brunswick, I would suggest giving the under carriage a real good inspection, but you probably are already quite used to that.

Good luck with your search :hattip:

I’m not overly concerned Tacoma’s are pretty much always over priced but I’m trying to stay under 40k if I can help it

Keep in mind that Canadian nanny poo is different than US nanny poo. He might not be able to avoid some safety stuff north of the border.

True. Missed that. And I don't know the quirks about that.

I try not to think about the Canada / US differences too much. On any topic

Have some family living on an island off Nova Scotia and it's a pretty constant earful from them.........

And in the winter we are often surrounded by them. We'll see if they get 'set free' this year.

Not Brier Island by any chance is it? I was there some years back to do whale watching. Very cool place!

    Mosher Island.

BIL was lighthouse keeper until it was automated, then they bought 150 acres and built their own place.

    My cruise is adaptive.

I turn on cruise, set speed.

Apply brakes to adapt to sudden new traffic speed. Reset speed.

Start accelerating to keep up with new traffic speed. Reset speed,

Repeat for the next 2 hours of highway driving. Very adaptive!:annoyed:

Adaptive cruise control would be very nice on long trips.

I always switch it to constant speed CC, the radar on mine seems to slow me down like 1/4 mile behind other vehicles even at its lowest setting.

Around here we are seeing used prices starting to exceed new prices.

If you can wait you can pick up a brand new truck, with warranty and ZERO miles, for less then you would pay for used one.

The dealer I am picking mine up from has a 42k mile 2017 sport that is within $100 of the price of my new 21, and a 38k mile 2018 OR that is $2k more.

It was bad enough three years ago when used prices were within $2-3K of new, but it makes NO sense to buy used when the price is higher. Heck, buy a craptastic 100k mile altima, or 200k prius, and drive it for a few months until your order comes in.

I absolutely HATE the adaptive cruise on my wifes highlander, I always turn it off. Two instances where it is nice, two lane roads and DENSE traffic. Other then that it defeats the purpose of cruise and always slows WAY too early.

2016-17 is less hassle to lift, because you're not dealing with (or losing) the fancy TSS features. If you're not planning to do any sort of a lift, then there's no reason not go to a later model (within your budget, of course).

In many places you can buy new for cheaper. But, that being said, I love my 17. I got it at the start of the COVID shutdown though and just before the used market went through the roof. I paid $32,300 with 14k miles and certified used if that helps. It has just shy of 56k miles currently. No issues.
