Top is the the stock I slightly modified, bottom is how they come (except for the finish). I basically smoothed out and rolled the edges/contours more, I just kept sanding little by little until it felt better.

That's awesome! Making chips and lots of them. Sometimes I miss the production work like that, but the more challenging aspects of it is the engineering of fixtures and machine programming, and only a few had that knowledge back when I was a operator. My duty in those days would have been to set up the fixture and tooling. Run machine.

A lot of our odd stuff only happens with certain machines we make.
We could be set up better to repeat but are not.
Reg the guy who trained me, and I did the plane with rest his soul he was an awesome machinist.
We did these rolls first on a manual with a rotary head bolted to the table.
It was 40’s g&l speeds and feeds were tied together and limited due to all just selected gear combos.
They weren’t as uniform but we got them done!!
We would do carriages the main body and business part of the machine be standing on 6” of face mill chips .100 depth of cut.

    How goes your new trainee?

I hope your getting along .

One of the last guys I tried to train could only read on a preschool level how he made it that far he must have been family to the owner.

Hand him a 3 page general procedure he hands it back and says I don`t know most of these words .

I only got to work with him for one partial day last week..Thursday, then he was off Friday and I'm off Mondays and tomorrow I have some training. I have a feeling he will work out ok but it's early to tell. At least we seem to have things in common outside of work. I need to try and adjust my attitude towards the political bs in general so as to not sour him on the place...straight off the bat.
I'm yet again updating my resume today and getting it sent off to a fellow former coworker who requested it.

I'll try and contribute more shop work soon. Have a few machining jobs coming up.
Going to get the new guy in there making some chips. Got 2 pump shafts that need some threads and key-ways put in.

The best saw operator we ever had (old job) was in his 50's, when he got hired he told the Plant Manager "I can't read -- but I can read a tape measure".

I never had senior pictures taken. Didn't even go to the graduation ceremony so they had to mail my diploma out.

I going to stay out of the way and let them do their thing. All I'm certain of is there will be some shots with him all in black with his cello then he'll change into jeans and a decent shirt for others. We're starting at a local park, no idea where we'll go from there.

I got you beat, I was never a senior lol.

Not saying I'm proud of that, but it doesn't trouble me either because I made good use of the time working and learning.
