I feel pretty confident you guys will be able to help with this one. I say this because my truck is stock as a clock 2012 2.7L Preerunner DBL cab which is pretty common.

I guess this is helpful where diagnostic needs are concerned with no outside mods to consider etc. The only - exception to this is the UNI-Filter mod where a K&N pop-on filter was used.

It is most definitely a wind-actuated sound or vibration as it only occurs while driving at higher speeds and intensifies when there is a gust of crosswind. I sometimes think I can feel a hint of the high-frequency vibration in the wheel when the sound is being made.

At 95mph and above it gets ridiculous and sounds like someone with iron lungs blowing with all their might on a mega Kazoo.

Has anyone had this happen or know what this is?

Mine does this, it’s the passenger front door seal. There’s some threads about this somewhere and I believe Toyota updated the seal as well. I know some guys have added an addition seal to help. There was also a tsb for the windshield moulding it I remember right.

I'll see if I can better locate or pin down the location Monday on the drive-in. If I were asked to guess the origin of the sound from my experience when I noticed it I would say front right of center. The problem is you have to really be moving to make it happen.

As to the door seal and windshield molding. Are you saying that Toyota is offering to fix these problems like a recall etc.? What is TSB??? Guessing, "Toyota Service Bulletin"???

Not uncommon, mine did this too with crosswinds at freeway speeds. Get some 1/4 inch OD tubing (clear plastic tubing at the hardware) and insert it in the groove in the weather strip that runs over the upper door frame on the door, not the body, and it should stop, it did for me. I think Toyota has a replacement seal, but it's probably stupid expensive and now days back ordered like everything else.

There is a technical service bulletin (TSB) on it, there is no customer satisfaction program or recall that I'm aware of.

There's always confusion about recalls, TSB's, and customer satisfaction programs so I'll try to explain.

A recall is generally limited to items that would affect the safety of the vehicle and is always free to get fixed, sometimes they are voluntary and sometimes they are mandated to the manufacturer by NHTSA.

A customer satisfaction program is a kind of extended warranty on a specific item/problem that manufacturers will sometimes issue for common failures as an act of good faith to keep customers happy, a good example is the frame replacement program.

A TSB is mainly a note to technicians to help them in diagnosing and repairing issues that may be common or difficult to diagnose, a TSB is NOT a recall or warranty although recalls and customer satisfaction programs usually have TSB's attached to them.
A dealer will only fix a TSB for free if the vehicle is still under manufacturer warranty, if the warranty is out then it is at their discretion whether to fix it free or not.

All that being said there's 2 TSB's related to wind noise, I've attached them below.

Depending on wind, mine was loud from 70-114mph (highest I ever got my truck). So 94 probably won’t help. Plus time is money. 95 or bust!

You can do the 'drip line' mod as a cheap way to 'maybe' fix the issue. Or you can buy the TSB weatherstripping (still not that expensive) and it really works.

I did both. I started with the drip line mod and it sorta worked... ran it like that for years. Then I finally bit the bullet and just ordered the TSB weatherstripping and replaced the whole door seals. I have had not a single time it made the kazoo noise since.

i brought my truck in multiple times for this when it was still under warranty and was useless. Prob not a TSB at the time but nothing ever changed. I just dealt with it. No its only going fast or heavy winds and only on the drivers side which is annoying.

I ordered and installed that weather stripping and the kazoo sound came back after a year or so. :angrygirl:

There is an upgraded seal available. Cured my highway kazoo permanently a few years ago.

Very simple to install. Just remember when the door checker is unbolted that the door swings freely

Even if it did include it, you would be well outside the 3yr/36k period TSBs are covered under.

I mickey moused around with a few "fixes" before I said the hell with it and fixed it the right way. I can't remember what I paid for the seals...it's been awhile. But I seem to recall about $120 for both

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
Same here as others...I dorked around with various homebrew fixes that sort of worked and then ordered the new gaskets from Toyota. Not a squeak since.
