    Yeah.
I use a bungie cord. They have some give, and they already have hooks on both ends. I just keep it in the rear door pocket on the driver's side.

Call me dense, but does the bug mesh not unzip on the front window? Or you could stand on the tire and lean over the roof rack?

both work, the issue i have is that the base of my tent is lower than the cab, so I can't get that second tension rod into the hole to keep the overhang pushed out on one side lol.

OVS does have good customer service.

Looking at your pictures, your ladder should be more vertical to take the stress off from the middle joint. With a shorter bed rack, you need to drill additional holes into the ladder for that to happen. The OVS instructions does leave a bit to be desired but the Smittybilt one(same tent) lays this out.

I’m gonna have to look for some toggles to build up some cords to keep my truck side open.
Anyone have a good solution to the side that I have my awning on? So far I have yet to figure out how to get the forward stay to tension the rain fly.

lmao have fun replacing that floor panel.
Hopefully its the whole half piece and not that thin aluminum sheet. its a pain in the ass.

Makes me want to buy the versions with diamond plate. The thin aluminum is soooo thin

Per smittybilt it should be no more than 20 degrees. Additional 3/8" holes needs to be drilled into the ladder.

I have a mid height bed rack like yours and I had to drill my ladder. In fact, I actually drilled 3 additional sets so there is more flexibility. I believe the ladder is actually essential to spreading the load so that it's not all on the center joint where it fans apart.

I’ve been tempted a few times… seems like it kinda defeats the purpose though.

Anyone own a OVS nomadic 3 and find it a complete PITA to remove the hoop that supports the entry area every time you break down the tent?
Maybe I’m missing something but when I called them to try to figure it out they also didn’t have a better idea

I've searched and I'm having no luck.

Is anybody running a Roofnest Sparrow XL on their bedrack? I can only find this setup. but it's the older x model and not sure the dimensions.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/roofnest-sparrow-x-hard-shell-roof-top-tent-sold.601100/

I'm contemplating replacing my current Yakima Skyrise 2 with this one, but have a batwing and curious to know how the setup is. Im thinking I'd have to order these mounts as the XL is 61" long with my loadbars being ~55"

    https://www.uptopoverland.com/products/straight-up-side-mount?variant=37668098408613

    Thanks!

The post you linked says the Roofnest X model was replaced with the Sandpiper — Google says the Sandpiper is slimmer than the X, but nothing about other measurements.

Sandpiper dimensions are reported between 47-50”W x 82-85”L depending on the source I looked at. Hope that helps.

Thank you for that @sdshack . With that help I dug deeper and found the older Roofnest Eagle is closer to size (58") to the XL (61"). I guess I never realized how many discontinued models Roofnest has.

Would still like to see some pics of the Eagle or the Sparrow XL mounted with an awning.

    Went from this ⬇️

    To this

When we decided to get a roof top tent, I new I wanted it to be fast deploy and able to hold the bedding and as light-ish and low as possible, but able to carry the kayaks if needed too, as the wife loves kayaking. So we settled on the two channel CVT Mt Hood medium.

But when I ordered it, I knew I was gonna pull my Front Runner roof racks and just use two 48” 1020 8020 extruded aluminum slats and low profile (1/2”) feet from prinsu. Apparently I had it in my head that they came in sets of 4 or something so the week of our Moab adventure

the shit arrived and I didn’t have enough feet. I needed 2 pairs of feet from the load bars to the tent and 2 pairs of feet from the tracks on my camper shell to the load bars. Since I didn’t order enough, I had to use feet from my front runner roof rack.

As such the tent was about 4 1/2” above the cab. Which was ridiculous. Those feet were 2 7/8”. The new ones are 1/2” so the tent is now a bit lower which I love. The tent is 1 1/2” over the shortened shark fin antenna and 2 1/2” over the cab.

But from personal experience hard wheeling I know that bed only flexes about an inch independently from the cab.

    5CBBA4CA-CFC5-49FF-9340-FDAEB13DD92D.jpg

So I may ending up fabbing an even lower profile solution. Although now I can fit my arm under there to check bolts and I may not be able to do that logically with a lower profile set up.

It was cool, a bit crowded the weekend we were there but that’s what happens when most of the rest of SoCal is on fire lol
