Why is it some get upset if you don’t agree? Over the past 20 years I’ve moved from Mobil 1, to Royal Purple and the past year to Amsoil. I could care less what others use or if they they go 50,000 miles between changes. I know people feel I’m a bit extreme but what I don’t do is fret about what others are doing as many do. That’s what I find fascinating.

That's a good way to live. Stressing about what others do is futile. But, as you have no doubt seen on this forum, there are those that get upset when someone else criticizes their holy grail. And I've seen more than a few Amsoil "loyalists". I'm not criticizing them, nor am I judging them. I just know that when someone else speaks poorly about a particular brand there is bound to be some blow back. :D

I wish my obsession carried over to what this guy just does. You all think what I do with my oil takes a lot of time but it actually doesn’t. Now this guy has the stamina that I don’t have- wish I did.

I agree. Frankly, I think paying attention to your paint protection actually makes more of a difference than micromanaging the oil changes every 1,000 miles. Your truck will maintain a nice looking finish while the 5,000 mile oil changes will keep the truck running as intended.

True. Who here thinks any manufacturer designs and builds so they only get one sale per customer? Also, to design optimally the cost would be prohibitive. Many people change-out their vehicles within 100,000 miles so an over-designed product isn’t necessary. For those who would like to try and get a vehicle to year 20 and beyond it may be prudent to incorporate a more stringent oil regimen. The benefit of a strict regimen will likely appear at 200,000 miles and beyond. What percentage of Tacoma owners intend to own it beyond 200,000 miles?

For this whole cold start concern, I have an idea. We take some regular motor oil and add some Teflon to it. We then give it a cool name; maybe something like "Slick 50" market the crap out of it saying it will make your motor last forever. We're going to make a fortune with this stuff!

I had a 1990 Honda CRX that I used Slick 50 with. Don’t know if there was any benefit but look what happened.

I had a head gasket leak at 325,000 miles and rather then make that repair I replaced the engine with an Integra motor- holy Sh**!

When we removed the engine NOT A SINGLE drop came out of the engine and I drove the vehicle one hour to the shop. No overheating or anything.
