Revolution Gears any good?

 

They said Yukon is what they've been able to get in stock lately. I'm about 150 miles into the break in now

Picked up my truck today. Nitro gears, no howling or whining so far. But I haven't gone past 60mph as I'm still breaking them in. Big difference going up hills so far. That being said, anyone on 5.29s and 37s here? Does it feel like it was before regearing?

 

Coming out of the same Korean factory and reboxed like all of the other brands.

My nitro's make no noise till around 70mph. And it's only on dead pedel or decel

 

Same. I was trying to figure out if my pinion needed a shim.

 

Also same here w/ Yukon. The only noise is a howl on dead pedal or decel from 60-70. Not very loud, maybe a little louder than the whine was on stock gearing.

Just finished break in so I'm gonna change diff fluid this weekend and see if anything changes.

 

I can almost play mine like an instrument. At Avery specific spot in speed when all the conditions are right, mine sounds like when you rub a wet finger around the rim of a glass of water.
I gotta do something… maybe change up my gear oil.

 

What gear oil are you using now? I figure I'll stick with the 85w-140 ECGS recommended

I got ahold of a set and so far so good! No whine or howl havnt gone pass 60mph still breaking them in.

 

Good deal…my over the last few months began the whine. Mine did not do it on install…how strange. I did put a set of Deaver Stage 3 leafs in, which changed the angles of things. I think it my pinion angle is wonky. when I get out of the woods and back to the shop I will be doing some measurements and shims.

 

My gears howl like crazy. Especially above 75.

 

Changed the gear oil yesterday with 85-140 and if anything the highway howl got a little louder. The gear howl also seems to be expanding its speed range. Was only from 60-70 initially and now it's more like 50-75 any time I let off the throttle.

 

Would it be possible to do the rear 3rd member first from ECGS and do the front diff later? And just remove the front driveshaft for the time being?

 

You can and no need to remove the front driveshaft. Just don't put it in 4x4.

 

Murphy lurks and is salivating over this. Big snowstorm will hit within a day or two of you doing this.

 

Alright, I'm new here.

Just bought a '22 and getting a 3" ironman, 285/70r17's and 5.29's.

I have an hour and a half drive home and the speed limit is 70. Lol. The dealerships shop is doing the work, and I'm sure they will make a short initial trip and I will also confirm this too. My concern is getting home. So I guess I'm going to be that guy going slow AF and stopping how often for 20-25 minutes? Every 50 miles? Whatever, they can all suck it, I'll throw on the cautions and pull over when I can. Still, tons of hills. At least it's getting cooler outside up here in MT.

So any advice is appreciated. I skimmed through some info here already but it's A LOT of info. How hard is it to change the front dif fluid on the 3rd gens? I have a vacuum line I can use if need be. That's what I did for my previous f150. Do we have to pop the front did open?

I'm nervous. But my mind is made up, this is my dream truck and maybe 4 years down the road I'll go from a 3" to a 6" and get aggressive.

Honestly contemplating just renting a trailer and having my step dad tow it home. Then I'd just put the 285's on there. Worth it?

 

If you can, try and run it in 4wd so you heat cycle both diffs. I had a long trip home but took a side highway instead of the interstate and ran about 55mphand stopped after about 25 minutes and let the diffs cool for 15.

If you have a heat temp gun you can use that to check the temps on the way.

The front diff oil change isn’t terrible, pop both plugs and drain and fill.
