Is it possible to switch out a short bed for a long bed on a 2nd gen? I assume that if the extra length is on the back end (i.e., doesn't affect where the wheel well is) it wouldn't be a problem. Thoughts? And if this is doable, where's the best place to find a long bed?

The same shit everyone else has.
    Nope.

The extra foot is in front of the wheels.

Look at the fuel filler door, it tells the whole story.

I can see why you'd think that. Looking at Tacoma specs on Toyota's website they incorrectly show the same wheelbase and length with both the 5' and 6' bed. But in reality the long bed has a longer wheel base and the beds won't interchange.

Thanks guys. Really wish I'd known how much I'd want that long bed. I'd consider selling my DCSB and upgrading but with prices the way they are right now...

Yeah after having a F250 8 foot bed, then two tacomas both with 6 foot beds I think I would go crazy with a short 5 foot bed.
You could always buy a cheap trailer.

    it'd be a wash

selling then buying a vehicle isnt like selling then buying a home in a hot market. Transactions are far less complex with less time involved. Just make sure you sell high and dont become so rigid on options when you buy that you marginalize yourself out of the market

The access cab and dcsb have the same wheel base. 127.4” the dclb has a 140.6” wheel base.
