Truck is at the dealership getting repaired due to the leaky brake light, interior has been removed and they're awaiting ServPro to treat everything for mold. I'm told I may get the truck back next week.

For the duration the dealership gave me a 2021 T4R SR5 Premium as a loner and I have to say I'm really enjoying it. The rest of the family loves it for outings, more back seat room and the ride is very comfortable. It is pretty spacious behind the rear seats, love the rear window opening into the tailgate and the electric seats are starting to grow on me. I'm seriously considering trading in the DCLB and getting one of these and a trailer for the dirty stuff, I enjoy it that damn much. The 4.0l in the T4R drives very similar to the 3.5L in the Tacoma however I have noticed I don't get as good mileage as I do with the DCLB on 285s. Weather has been pretty consistent the last three weeks so I don't think that would account for it.

Here's a pic of the loaner. Not a fan of the color but it's really nice on the inside.

To add to my troubles, I saw a 2022 TR4 PRO in Lime Rush inside the showroom as I drove by a different dealership today. Color looks pretty damn good in the flesh however I was afraid to go in and have a look to see MSRP plus markup. I know with inventory as it is the adjustment in price would be a punch to the sack. The DCLB has been paid off for awhile now so resuming car payments is not high on my list right now.

I can't seem to get the idea out of my mind though, love the DCLB but this damn TR4 is growing on me.

Anyone else considering moving up the ladder these days? It's a great time to sell a car but not so good to buy.

Here's my truck for reference, only has 65k miles on it.

Maybe it's just a case of enjoying the fling with some strange. Once I get it back all will be right in the world and I will be Tacoma happy again.... at least until it's time to upgrade the wife's car. Maybe prices and selection will will be more reasonable then.

I need to have a truck not so much for truck reasons just my personal preference . I tried the SUV route with my 5x10 trailer but missed having a truck so goodbye SUV .

    "TR4" = ToyotaRunner4 haha
Definitely upgrade that Chevy Traverse.. Those engines are a ticking time bomb for timing chain issues and the resale value tanks. Unfortunately the new car market is nuts and the used car market is even more nuts. Not all hope is lost, it's possible to find dealers not charging markup. I'm not sure if you're in Hampton Roads or not but you might need to do some driving, but it's doable.

Title is fixed, I have a mild case of dyslexia.

Chevy has over 110k on it, the V6 motor isn't as bad as the 4 banger in the Equinox but it IS starting to show it's age. Wife still likes it though and it's also paid off.

I'm in Hampton Roads, we've got a shit-ton of dealerships in the area to look at, both the southside and the peninsula but I'm really not sure I want to pull the trigger yet.

I've had a truck in my possession continuously since 1986, I almost wouldn't know what its like to NOT have one available. I'll probably keep the DCLB and get the T4R for the wife when she's ready to get something new. We no longer need the 3 row seating of the Chevy but it does swallow up a lot of gear.

Wife took the T4R to work today just to see how much she might like it.

The 4R certainly has its pluses, but if you look at crash test results it may dampen your enthusiasm.

I also drive a 22 year old Miata, crash test results aren't the top of my priority list, I buy what I like.

Yup, when I went to Priority Chesapeake this summer for my inspection, everything was marked up at least five grand. Checkered Flag was just out of new stock, no new trucks. Who knows with this chip shortage and no end in sight...

The 4Runner is an incredibly safe car. The small-overlap result is on par with pretty much any vehicle made before 2014.

Maybe wait a year to see if the 23 4Runner debuts.

IMO, the decision is very simple. If you have no use for the box, and like the 4R more, then go with the 4R. Personally I cannot survive without a truck box, use it all the time so taco it is.

    Good luck!

I have a deposit down for a 4Runner. I will only pay MSRP, as that’s thousands more than one would typically pay if they could get it at invoice. I am willing to do this, only if I get the inflated trade in on my Tacoma, then the extra cost of paying MSRP is a wash. The 4Runner is way more comfortable than the taco, but your right, it drinks more gas than the taco.

i sold my tacoma and replaced it with a GX460 - no regrets. i think the 4runner would be a great replacement. and like you said, pick up a little trailer for the dirty stuff

I think there's quite a few of us on here with 4Rs and Tacos. I have a 19 ORP 4R and it's a damn great truck. My Taco is just a decent truck. I'd choose 4R all day long if I was forced to take one only.
