Pics from yesterday’s drive to Asheville. Always fun to hit afternoon traffic in Atlanta. One minute you’re moving along at 70
    upload_2021-10-6_7-35-5.jpg

The next it’s a parking lot
    upload_2021-10-6_7-33-15.jpg
Shortly after this I came off the interstate for a US Highway 23 into the north GA mountains. With the cloud cover it got dark quick so no pics of that.

Hope to do some sightseeing in Asheville this morning, then I’ll head down the road to another place I want to stop at.

Today was more sightseeing and road miles. I wanted to get a picture of the Tacoma in front of the Biltmore Estate. Unfortunately, they want $60 just to drive onto the grounds o_O the full house tour is $100:spending: I’ll have to settle for a picture of the truck in front of the old gate house.
    upload_2021-10-6_20-0-46.jpg

Then I went down the road to Black Mountain to see Montreat College. It’s the setting for a book I read earlier this year called “One Second After.” The author William Forstchen, is a history professor at the college. If you like end of the world type books check the series out.
    upload_2021-10-6_20-9-10.jpg

After that it was time to go to Mt. Mitchell the highest point east of the Mississippi River. It’s a 25 mile trip up a winding, 2 lane road. We started out in sunshine and warm weather.
    upload_2021-10-6_20-11-13.jpg

A couple of miles up the road we were in the clouds
    upload_2021-10-6_20-15-35.jpg

At the summit it was cold and windy, 57* with a 15-20 mph wind blowing. The views weren’t too good either. Lol. Now I have a reason to go back.
    upload_2021-10-6_20-19-6.jpg

Then more highway miles to Mt. Airy, NC, home of Andy Griffith and the “real” Mayberry. A couple more stops here tomorrow then it’s on to Overland Expo East.

So glad to see you out there Blevin. I've got a lot of backpacking time in NC back in my younger days. Over a few years, I actually backpacked from NC to about 15 miles into Pennsylvania on the AT (Appalachian trail). Beautiful area.

Good morning everybody. Sorry for the lack of comms, limited cell service and longer miles than I hoped for kept me off here. I got home late yesterday afternoon from my trip. It was a good adventure. I’ll get a trip report and some more pics up soon.

Bill, I’m just now seeing this, hate that I missed it. I was at Expo all weekend, it would have been great to meet you.

It's ok. I figured it was due to lack of comms. Glad you enjoyed your trip and had a safe one too Blevin
