Okay so I still don’t understand what’s going on.. I had the “RSI brake light wire that had the red and white “crossed” so I switched those and now am getting power from the factory brake light harness into the rsi rear brake light. However, the last connector that branches and runs to the bulb won’t power the bulb. Am i missing something? So frustrated by this haha

The 3rd picture shown is the only connector that’s not drawing any power.. the 4th picture just compares the factory bulb connector and the one provided by rsi

Is there only 2 wires in the rsi harness? Sure looks like it and if so I’d suspect that’s why.

Just checked- The short length connectors that go to the taillight have 3 wires on my harness and the longer single connector to the canopy will have just 2

Man this thing was all jacked up! So can it be fixed? Or is this harness trash?

Yeah my rsi harness has just two wires on all the connectors. This may sound dumb but could I take the green ground wire coming from the truck and just reroute it going to the bulb? Then just have two wires on the other two rsi?

Im not sure I’m following- it’s early but I’m sure it can be fixed. I think just removing the sealing plugs (for the 3rd wire) from the 2 taillight (rsi) connectors and adding a wire.

I was given extra parts terminals/seals, I can make you the wire with terminals attached and all you’d have to do is insert if you like. Just pm me your address

RLD is nice, good quality but to me it's too upright, kinda square'ish...

I joined the RSI Smart Cap crowd this weekend and just wanted to share a few pics of the install, especially how I routed the 3rd brake light harness. It was only after I had the cap on the bed did I see that you could route the harness up through the side of the bed under the plastic. I wasn't about to remove the cap again to do that, so I took a different approach and just drilled a 3/4" hole in the side of the bed (gasp.) and ran the wire through there. Zip tied the extra harness slack up in the wheel well. Found some 3/4" wire grommets on Amazon to plug the hole up and make it look nice. Good access from the driver's side bed storage box to get in there and do all this. Just wanted to share. Previous posts were super helpful to me, so thank you all!

So you put the plug behind the bed? I have a grommet that would likely work in that spot. I spec’Ed it out for the thickness of the cubby box and the inner diameter spec’Ed out for a tight fit/seal with I believe 3/8 corrugated sleeve. It would be a tighter seal than what looks like slits and you could pull the plug out for access… I guess unless you did that on purpose

You don't need to drill at all. See how I routed mine without needing to drill a hole:

I didn’t drill, I was offering up a grommet. When I had the fiberglass I wired it near the spot you posted except it’s between the bed and sheet metal (didn’t know just 2” forward was a knockout) I did end up bending the metal at that corner for a little more play and out of frustration. I may try to bend it back into place

you can kinda see it here.

Nah, I def don’t deserve a prop up. I’ll help when I can/if I can dependent on mood tbh. I’ve contributed to the unwelcoming posts/snark replies etc. so I’m no solid role model. I just try to do better going forward if I slip.

After 6+ months of having this cap - I just noticed the running light issue due to a missing wire on their "old" harness. Of course, after installing it when the sun was out, I just checked that the brake lights work, and of course it did because the "blue" wire was there - I didn't bother to check if the running light was functional. It wasn't until my buddy told me my running light was out that I figured out that the wiring harness supplied by RSI was missing a "green" wire to tap into the factory running light, sighs. Unless RSI has an updated wiring harness in stock, I will have to get rid of the original wiring harness, and have to fix it the old fashion way, tap the cap's 3rd brake light into the blue wire, and ground it to the frame. I have to admit, I love the cap but screwing up a 3-wire harness is disappointing for a cap that costs almost $4000.

Did you order from us? If not, still happy to help. Smartcap will gladly ship you out another harness. You just need to submit a warranty claim. If you did order from us, send me a PM with your order number and I'll submit the claim for you.

It’s all under warranty so file a claim and they will take care of you. RSI has great customer service.

I went to a SnugTop dealer to price and plan. They had a SmartCap Adventure in stock and despite not planning on purchasing a bed cap for a few months I ended up scheduling an instal for Nov, 12th.

Pricing is close to the same as a SnugTop Rebel with gullwing side windows.
