yea. I dig the jem, just not the indo's.
I purchased one a little while back from sweetwater. $1900. 777bfp. Even had them plek it. Absolutely stunning guitar. After 3 setups including sweetwaters setup after the plek, I returned it.

I was such a fan of Steve's way back in Alcatraz that when the jems came out in the late 80's, I hand painted the TOL on the neck with enamel model paint on my 1st Roadstar.

You def are a Vai fan! I had to look up pleking, but wow, what a shit experience for a top end guitar. I am taking my strandberg back to GC for them to look at it and they will set it up now that I have the strings broken in. The input jack has an issue and one of selector switch wires is a little chewed up. Minor issues, but I'm a little pissed for my $2500 guitar to have absolutely any issue at all.

Yea, it was a bummer. The fit and finish of it was absolutely amazing. The wizard neck was phenominal. We just couldn't get the strings low enough without buzz.
Sweetwater has a 30 or 60 day return policy and I had no issues with the return. Awesome company. I won't purchase another guitar without playing it first.

Honestly, I would take your stranburg to a local luthier even if its under warranty. Might cost you $70 or so but i'm sure they will do a much better job.

I had to get a magnifying glass out, but it looks like a solder iron brushed the wire. I don't think much, if any conductor is exposed. The input jack just needs a contact moved a little I think. It cuts out if I push the cable toward one particular 90 degree area. I imagine GC will not be willing to put a new wire in without a warranty order from strandberg. I do not have the GC warranty.

The action isn't bad. At the 12th fret, 3.5mm on the low B and 3mm on everything else. My ESP is a little lower, but some of the upper register notes are buzzing. The strings are pretty old and beat up. I just got everything to do set ups myself. I'm going to try the ESP first when I restring and clean everything here shortly. From what I've read, 3mm is good for wound strings and 2mm for solids, intonation at frets 5 and 17, and get the neck relief as minimal as possible. Do you have any tips?

Thanks, it is a great guitar and has been my only one for about 8 years, after I sold my three 80's and 90's Kramers. My only complaints are the lack of forearm relief and the SD blackouts are not my thing any more. They are just too damn hot. The newer Horizon III's are beautiful, btw. Affordable, too, at only $4600...

Yes. Beautiful, but tragic. A lot of reindeer had to die to get that depth of color. It's also not actually a "Horizon," but an "HRF-NTii," even though it says Horizon the headstock. It is a Horizon in every way, except the Forest series headstock with opposed tuners. Neat little piece of ESP history. They don't make them with this headstock anymore, except for the 8 string.

That is striking. Too bad it didn't work out. How do you like the new JEM, is it called PIA, I think?

I considered sweetwater, but did not want to pay for shipping if I chose to return it. That and GC gave me 10% off. I called about the new generation and they said it was still looking like delivery in Q1. I said cancel my order, Sweetwater has 2 of them that I can have in 3 days. Then they took the 10% off, but we still thought it would be Q1 delivery.

So the 10% off and not paying sales tax (live in PA, GC is in DE) saved me $400. They still have a 45 day return period, but I can't see sending this back.
