Why do half say 265/75/16 rub on stock setup and half say they are fine?

For first gens, I have searched and read extensively. Each time I feel like I have my answer, I start seeing OPPOSITE answers. Half of the people seem like they say going to a 265/75/16 over a 265/70/16 will cause rubbing, and half say it's fine.

How can this be!? I'd think it either SHOULD or SHOULDN'T rub, period!

Shopping for new tires now, and I'd take the extra size if it works fine, but not if it's going to cause trouble.

 

Just get them I'm running them they don't rub and I've been running my truck in some situations. I don't know who said they rub but they are wrong!

 

My 265/75/16 BFG A/Ts on stock wheels do not rub at all, even at full stuff.

 

under the right circumstances, they will rub the front mud flaps a tiny bit

 

Mud flaps I wouldn't care about, but, I've read a bunch about hammering some weld out of the way..sounds ...not right.

 

I have LT265/75/16 tires on my truck, and I've never had any clearance issues. They don't even rub at full flex...

 

Please take notice guys he is a first gen...most people that answered are second gens

 

So far no rubbing on my stock lift 03 DC, but I just put on 265/75/16 Duratracs two days ago so haven't tested it at full lock. I'll let you know tomorrow.

 

First off, it depends whether you're talking 2nd Gen or 1st Gen.

Then it depends on the wheel backspacing, the actual brand of tire (as they do vary), width of the wheel (affects profile of tire), age of suspension (is it new and stiff or blown out and sagging), whether or not the person uses the full range of suspension travel, etc.

 

As far as 1st gen to 2nd gen...which are more prone to rubbing, 1st?

 

It could be that people don't read the whole thread. The first few people that answered you all have 2nd gens.

 

I have a stock height 97 Tacoma with brand new 265/75/16 AT's and they don't rub at all, not even on the mud flap.

 

I have a 2004 Prerunner and I put 265/75/r16 rocky mt's on stock
wheels on my truck and yes they rub my frame when I turn all the way to the left..
but not the right.. and they still rubbed in the same spot after
a 2'' lift and an Alignment

 

It depends on the footprint of the tread. I had Cooper ATRs in 265/70R16 on my 04 D-cab. They would rub the frame at full turn left and right. They would also hit the mud flaps with the front end turned and compressing the suspension (pulling up a curb/driveway). The stock BFG Rugged Terrains and the Dunlops after them never rubbed. The difference between the tires was that the Coopers had a wide footprint with a squared shoulder.

I added a leveling kit, replaced the shocks and struts, and am now running 265/75R16s and have no rubbing issues.
