Honestly, I lucked out. I knew lunar rock was an option and what I wanted was a TRD OR Premium MT lunar rock but knew my chances were slim to none. I opted to go with any color but red or blue. i trolled the different dealers on the internet looking for an OR with MT in a 21 or 22 model, didn’t matter. Every one of them listed online, in transit, had been sold. I came across one in army green but again, sold. The salesman had me hang on a minute then came back and told me one scheduled for them but not built yet was available. It was what i really wanted in the first place, a TRD OR Premium MT in lunar rock so I jumped on it. The army green is a great color too.

What!!! That is insane. First thing I absolutely had to do in my 05 was the audio. It was absolutely terrible. Granted I'm sure in a 22 it will be better but how is that even allowed to be listed as premium audio in the MT?

Here is one to piss me off!! See a 2021 TRD or DCSB army up on a rack in front of a dealership by my moms. Go to check it out and it is a fleet vehicle…. Why the hell did they put it on display if they are not going to sell it?. They do have one 2021 for sale but it is the trail edition in mag grey. So if anyone is looking for one hit me up and I will tell you where it’s located. It just really grinds my gears….

Totally agree. I think Toyota wants to sell AT instead of manuals because of the price difference. Maybe they think the JBL speakers might persuade someone but not me. I do know only 5% of Tacoma’s yearly are produced with manuals. Really not sure their reasoning, honestly.

I've actually seen nothing on the premium audio breakdown. Plus the MT was non-negotiable for me and I'm sure it's the same as most other MT drivers. I'll do the speakers myself, not gonna do a transmission swap myself

Really it’s just market research. I would say 80%-90% prefer and automatic due to the ease of it.

I would also assume only 20% of the population know how to drive a standard. Then break that down to about 15% that actually know how to operate one on a daily basis without slowly burning up a clutch or wearing out gears. It’s been a bout 14 years since my last Standard transmission in a vehicle and I don’t miss it at all. It was fun when I was a teen but I tend to do dumb stuff when I’m behind the wheel or bars of anything with a clutch.

You are correct, no doubt. I grew up on a ranch and still ranch. I learned to drive with a standard but feel safer with a load using a manual, especially down a steep grade. Not knocking anyone who prefers an automatic but I prefer a manual.

Interesting developments on the Tacoma OR DC SB AT Lunar Rock I have reserved.

The dealership I am working with received an allocation with more accessories than I really needed, but I was ultimately OK with it and put down a deposit.

The truck has been built now and has a real VIN. But about $1k in 'port' accessories (predator tube steps, mud guards, wheel locks, exhaust tip) are no longer in the spec.

I spoke to the salesman and the sale price will be adjusted. Coming out ahead since I can cherry pick what I want later, and definitely for less than the cost installed.

Meanwhile, there is no delivery date, though the VIN went real about a week ago.

Damn my 21 should arrive any day now. I feel like a chump if the 22s are arriving before my 21.

I haven't been able to get a solid delivery date and VIN has been real for a few weeks. Only thing my dealer knows is that it went from an in transit status to freight. Transit I believe is to port. Freight from port to dealer so hopefully mine shows up here in the next week.

Regarding the 2022 Trail Edition I had a conversation with my salesman about it when I secured my 22 OR. He had no clue the the Trail Edition was an option. I logged on to TW and showed him some YT videos and basically schooled him on it and a few other options. Not like I’m an expert either but selling Toyota’s isn’t my profession either. He’s a good guy and my wife and I have bought 4 Toyota’s from him at this point.
He mentioned before the last year most customers came to the dealership and selected a vehicle from what was on the lot. Only a few people who were knowledgeable came in with specific requests. That has changed and over the last 6 months or so he has seen customers come in very specific about what they want and more knowledgeable.
Another salesman decided he wanted a 2022 Trail Edition and promised when he can put down a deposit he will and then text me about it.

Oh man, don't get my hopes up... mine is arriving in a couple days and I'd love to see those dumb tube steps disappear before it arrives, haha.

I am curious. Are any of you receiving allocations within the Southeast Toyota distribution area (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, NC and SC)? I have had a deposit in since this summer and dealer tells me builds should pick up full speed in the middle of November. Im going with SPDCSB w/MT in Lunar Rock.

Right there with you buddy. I've already picked out the stereo upgrades. From what I have learned from the Audio/Video forum, the best part of the JBL stereo package is the pretty logo on the head unit. I'll take the M/T over that any day of the week.

My wife seems to want the tube steps--I may end up buying them from someone like you who takes them off of their truck if she can't live without them.

We are planning to take the truck into the desert and will be driving offroad. I'm not sold at all we want something that makes the truck wider and lower where we will be driving over rocks and uneven trails.

Mud guards seem like another liability to get snagged offroad. The TRD OR already has the plastic fender flares, so I'm not sure the mud flaps are protecting much in the first place. Glad those are gone.

I kind of want a black exhaust tip though--it completes the blackout package/chrome delete.
