2017 strong gasoline from exhaust

I own a 2017 I4 tacoma with apx 20k miles and i notice a strong smell of gasoline when i start the truck after the truck is sitting for a few days. I can smell it around the truck and yesterday i went over to the exhaust and i think thats where the smell is coming from. I cant see any leaks in the engine bay nor the floor. Ive smelt this for the past 4 months. Any ideas? Also you think it would be covered under powertrain warranty?

Seem to only smell it after the car has been sitting for long periods of time.

 

Could be a fuel injector not atomizing fuel properly, could be MAF sensor issue. If it's still under warranty I'd suggest letting Toyota troubleshoot it.

 

Not sure if thats a powertrain or not. My bumper to bumper is gone but i still have power train

 

Should cover the engine and all its parts, not 100% sure. Call the dealer and ask to be sure. We cover injectors under powertrain warranty at my service department, but I'm not a Toyota service department.

 

whats your air:fuel ratio?

 

Maybe a bad o2 sensor

 

I don’t know about the 3rd Gen.
But this is normal for 2nd Gen trucks
Especially when it’s cold outside, 40 degree or below and it’s has set for a long period.

Most vehicles run rich on start up.
They run open loop until it heats up and then revert to the O2 and A/F Sensors.

Are you noticing excessive smoke on start up?

 

No smoke. I only smell it upon startup. Then it goes away after a few mins. Only started happening about 4 or 5 months ago.

 

I have an irrelevant question. Do you have the 5 speed manual in your SR, or is it the automatic?

Ive had the car for 4yrs and this started happening 4 months ago.

 

There is no 5 speed manual SR anymore. A manual is only available on the TRD trims and it is a 6 speed. I guess Toyota considers it a luxury option now.

 

yeah its unfortunate. There are a few 5MT 2016-2017 SR tacos running around but they're very uncommon. And there's a few 6MT SR tacos too apparently (proof on page 18 of the ebrochure under the SR section)

 

Will your service department warranty injectors if there are not codes?

 

Yes sir, injector issues manifest in several different ways and will not always throw a code.
