It seems to depend on the inspection station. Maybe some one can offer you insight on a “preferred” station.

my understanding is that if you can cover it and its not wired into the OEM fog light switch or another OEM switch that had another different purpose from the factory, then it's not supposed to fail. Having a cover is really the key

And I think technically you're not supposed to have more than 4 lights on up front at once (L and R are separate lights, and so are high and fog, so for example high and low beams on would be the 4, or low and fogs would also be 4), but if you're on a back road with no one else, then I doubt anyone cares

Although I also don't have any extra lights, so don't have any first hand experience. I just read about it when I was thinking about some

Just cover it and you'll pass. If it's covered they can't say anything about it one way or the other. You could ask four different inspectors and get four different answers. Over the years I've seen go from definite fail to being okay with it, and nothing has changed in the inspection manual. It all comes down to interpretation. And arguing with the inspector will get you no where. I bought a cover for mine and they don't say a thing. That cover gets used once a year and that's it.

Thank you guys. I even stopped at the local Fairfax police station and they couldn’t even give me a definitive answer, but they were super cool about it. I’m just going to have to reconsider the light bar and potentially just re-angle my ditch lights (which easily cover and uncover) for when leaving paved roads to the hunting site

State inspection is run by the VA State Police, and even then I doubt your run of the mill trooper could tell you what would and wouldn't pass.

I can see if I can find the place that made the cover for my light bar if you want. It was around $25 and the guy that did it was pretty cool. It just suction cups on. Alternatively, you could use a piece of cardboard or something to cover it, but it has to cover the entire lighting surface.

Edit: don't use cardboard. I just read the inspector's manual and it's pretty specific about using something OEM looking. The rest of the auxiliary light section? Confusing and contradictive.

No seat heaters. Our 32 oz thermal cups were warm to the touch the height of the cup holders in the center console. Passenger side tunnel felt like a plate you would warm in a microwave. Warm, not hot. Sitting over there it was like seat and floor warmers were on and it was noticeably warmer compared to the drivers side which felt normal. We turned the AC on. And again, it went away and didn't come back.

No, I don't have those things. When Chris looked at the trans fluid, it didn't look or smell burnt. It looked like it should at (then) 78k miles. The rest of the trip it wasn't a factor.

I doubt it's anything. Trans tunnels get hot.

If I head out this weekend, it's probably going to just to camp. Spent way too much time getting that AZ mud off. That stuff's like glue. Thinking about Sleepy Creek (negotoable for company), but need to check weather. Let me know if anyone's game.

My weekends are free, so any of the above will work as of now.

Depending on when/where I'd tag along.
Went camping last week to see the foliage, guess it's a bit too soon still.

So after a long story that I'll tell you in the trip report, I am the not so proud owner of 12 quarts of OEM Toyota AT Fluid. And I lost the receipt somewhere along the way. I'm trying to get a duplicate reciept from the dealer and also trying to avaoid a 3 hour drive to return it. Looking for a buyer if the dealer won't take it back. I paid $176 for 12 quarts. PM me if you interested.

Question for you lads. In your experience is it worth trying to exchange TPMS from old wheels to new wheels yourself or just pay a shop to do it? It looks somewhat straight forward but I tend to say that about most things right before I fail miserably.

edit - both sets of wheels have tires mounted/balanced. One set has TPMS the other has the basic valves. The end goal is to switch the TPMS for core and vice versa.

I would pay a tire shop so it’s done correctly. Breaking tire beads at home is a pain in the butt, not to mention the rest of the work. Then they can properly balance them too.

Id second going to a shop. I changed two motorcycle tires on my own, and after that, I'll never do anything with tires on my own again lol

I live dangerously with no tpms sensors, but I park close enough to my shed with my other wheels with the sensors so that the light stays off
